Astro nano sockets issue

I tryied to use the Astro nano sockets in my Milwaukee stubby but they dont fit well on the square drive. The friction ring goes past the square drive hole and dont keep the socket fit and firm.

Does anyone else have the same problem with the Nanos? Or is the stubby drive thats longer than other impacts?

Well that doesn't look good. My next Milwaukee purchase was going to be the stubby and then get the astro nano sockets for it.

I just got the stubby and haven’t used the combination stubby and nano sockets. Will check it out tomorrow at work

What size is that? I will go out and measure mine as well as the square drive on my Astro impact. I'm very curious as well if it is the sockets or the Milwaukee.

If it's the sockets, don't worry. I'm sure Chris will make it right on Monday.

I had a similar issue with my Makita 3/8 impact. I think the Nano's are designed with a ball detent-style anvil or the super short anvils like those on the Astro and Earthquake stubbies in mind.

I took an appropriately-sized thick rubber washer from a kit I have in my tool box and put it on my anvil to act like a bumper. It leaves the right amount of anvil exposed to properly engage the socket without protruding into the area that goes on the fastener and keeps it from flopping around.

This is the kit the washer came from:

The anvil on my 3/8 Nano angle impact is 15mm tall but it has a tapered base that keeps the socket from going on too deep.

I compared my Nano sockets to my GP mid depth and the drive end on the Nanos is about 2mm shorter than the mid depth. I'm thinking this is Milwaukee's fault for using an anvil that is too tall or not wide enough at the base.

Yep, I think this issue is to do with anvil design rather than socket. Some anvils don't taper & some do. PITA

FYI, I have both a Snap-on 14.4v and Milwaukee m18 3/8" impact driver and the nano sockets fit perfectly on the SO. Could be a Milwaukee thing. When I go outside i'll try the Milwaukee and report back.

Just tried it in my Milwaukee 2754-20 it it fits fine.

Sorry guys but it appears like Astro is in the clear from my point of view. I checked this on my Makita, and Dewalt and the socket is where it should be. The anvil on my Milwaukee M12 is 1/8th of an inch longer than that of the others that I mentioned. This measurement is not including the friction ring.

Here's what my Makita looks like with the bumper installed.

I just put my Astro stubbies on my 3/8 Milwaukee stubby impact. They move back and forth a little, but that's the clearance between the friction ring and the anvil. All my 3/8 drive sockets move back and forth the same amount.
