I have something similar, use it all the time at work and home. I've ordered from amazon a few times with no problems.

Has anyone used one of these? I was going to order one from Northern Tool, but they said they were unavailable. I found them from Amazon.com for about the same price.

A lot of people complained about shipping delays from Amazon.com. I have only had a couple of orders from them, but had no problem with them. Anyone else have any problems with them?

TIA, Brady

Let me tell you how to accomplish the same thing you will with that light and save a bunch of money in the process!

Go to Sears and buy the long fluorescent stick light that is a couple of feet long or so; now grab a couple of zip ties and tie one to the hook on the end of the light and tie the other to the cord at the handle end. Obviously you also route the zip ties through a couple of holes at each end of the light under the hood! Now you have installed a hanging light under the hood that will stay as long or short a time as you might need, and it did not cost $75.00! :wtf:

BTW, the described process takes me all of about a minute to accomplish, I think the described way beats that much money all hollow!

Amazon was slow as dirt with my nitrocat last year. They said there were tons in stock. Then I was told it was back ordered. Wouldn't order from them...

Thanks for the responses. UB was the Sears light to which you were referring this one?

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_03473905000P?vName=Tools&keyword=led+shop+light

It got poor reviews on the Sears site due to the lack of light output and poor light distribution (not uniform coverage, too pinpoint).

Or was it this one?

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_03473903000P?vName=Tools&keyword=led+shop+light

It has 60 leds, half the number of the one I first referenced. So far it has no reviews on the Sears site.

So far, my best lights have been regular drop type lights with compact fluorescent bulbs (100 watt equivalent). Has anyone ever taken a fluorescent fixture and put hooks (and maybe small wheels for under the car) on it? The fixtures that I have looked at have been too heavy for my purposes.

I use the Central Flouresent underhood light and I consider it one of my better tool purchases ever. It does a great job of illuminating engine compartments or whatever you use it on. It makes engine work alot easier for me. The LED model wasn't around when I got the one I have. I know some people have said that LED light can wash out depending on what's used for ambient light. I really like my underhood light and my streamlight poly stinger. I would be blind without them.

I've been using one of these for big job for about a year.

I like it. Some. If have to replace a head gasket or drop a motor, I'd pull it out. I bought it because the lighting in my old shop was horrible. That shouldn't be a problem at the dealership I'm starting with tomorrow, so it's going to live at home now.

It's not terribly bright, and the light is VERY focused. Some people don't like that, but I do. It lights up a 6" wide strip across the engine bay, so that you can directly light exactly where you want it, but keep the glare out of your eyes. Reach up and twist the light, and it pivots in it's little clips to shine elsewhere.

However, if I had to do it over again, I'd buy a fluorescent one if I could find it. One of our guys has one, and I like his a lot more. :)

And don't order from Amazon, get it here instead. I checked all the e-tool-vendor places, and they're the cheapest:

I REPEAT: DO NOT ORDER FROM AMAZON - The reason it's so cheap is because, well, that's not what they're selling. They have the wrong picture listed. The AStro 6300 is a cordless trouble light. NOT an underhood light. ;)

TNT: Thanks for the correction on the Amazon.com one. That would have been a real letdown to have gotten the wrong one.

I would appreciate it if you could find out more information on the fluorescent one. I searched online and couldn't find any info on an underhood fluorescent light.
