I bought one of these after watching Eric O at South Main Auto take off just about any fastener with this gun. I'v I'm running 120 psi at the compressor with 3/8" lines and coupling and I can't remove a 100 lb ft torqued lug nut. Is this thing defective? It is brand new. I'm getting less than 1/4 of the listed working torque. If I hold the socket in the highest reverse setting, the thing kicks into hammer mode. This doesn't seem like it is working right.

Anyone have any experience on this impact? Mine seems to be a lemon.

Don't know about that gun but I do know that when I worked in a shop my tools had way more power than at home. All of the places I have worked the compressors turned on at 150 psi and shut off around 175 psi.

I realize shops run higher pressure, but this thing is supposed to run at 90 PSI and the torque spec is 450 pounds at that rating. My compressor is putting out more than the 5.6 CFM listed in the spec.

Are you using standard 1/4 fittings? Maybe change em out for bigger ones

Do you have a means of measuring the pressure right at the gun while in use? If not and you can rig up a tee with a gauge than you'll know for sure if it's a pressure issue.

It can after hammering for over a minute. I'm running 1/2" 50 ft hose, Milton "V" fittings on my Husky 30 gallon twin piston compressor and it'll take the lugs off. I use the 1/2" Astro 1822 and it'll blast off lugs like nothing.

You are aware it has 3 settings in forward and reverse, correct? I bought a Snap On im6100 and accidentally turned the power all the way down and it wouldn't do ****. I thought it was broken or defective as well until one day I realized the knob was turned down. Rookie mistake.

120PSI is nothing if its going through more piping, oiler, dryer, reel etc... That said my 1828 is actually defective out of the box where it acts like its missing motor vanes and surges so certainly not without problems. 1822 that I got at the same time is fine however. Havent taken it apart to see what shoddy component is causing the actual problem.

This is the kind of support that makes me want to buy random Astro stuff ... just because.

Me too. Only problem is I already have the 1822, ball joint master set and the 1/4 universal socket sets. Have to start looking for more to get. :lol_hitti

Jacked 72,Something here is amiss.Do you have any other air tools that work or is the Astro the only one at this time.If you had other air tools this would simply be a process of elimination. My 1828 works great at 130 psi, using 3/8 line stretched out about 30 feet.Of course all the lugs on my truck are all torqued to 150 PSI.From the limited information given I would say that the connector to the tool may not be opening the line all the way. Just a hunch, Ken
