I know there is a rep. on here for Astro Pneumatic. I bought some stubby 1/8 in. drill bits (AP9012). I want to know why they changed from a gold color to a silver color and a little longer bit. These bits cut great! I like the little longer ones because they can be sharpened in my drill doctor. These are Chinese made and like I said they cut great!

I changed them to a higher grade of HSS. I also changed the cutting angle by about 3-5 degrees. They last longer now, take an edge better, are easier to start a hole and it cost Astro minimal to change because these are so tiny - I didn't increase the price.

Happy you noticed. Usually just the body shop guys who go through hundreds that remark about the change.

Although I've noticed we've started to sell steadily less of these I think due to the above. Good thing I'm not in sales:)

I needed a short bit to drill in a tight area to drill out a broken flush exhaust manifold bolt, the Cornwell truck pulled up and the rest is history. Again people, great product.

Are the 3/16" stubbies (9036) just out of stock or are they being discontinued? I build a lot of race car bodies using 3/16" pop rivets to fasten the panels together, and would like to give your bits a try.

They sound like they would be awesome on a right angle drill for engine bay work.

If you can't find the 3/16" go to mcmaster carr. They have a full selection of stub drills including a short flute for sheet metal that has a bit on both ends.
