When can we expect these to become available?

I noticed those a couple days ago. I really want them, though I am curious on their decision to stop at 17 instead of going to the "standard" 19mm for metric sets.

The XL ratchet (will be 78218) for 1/2" drive Nano sockets is an 18" long wrench we've recently still been tweaking due to a future possible expansion of 1/2" drive nano socket range we're not tooled up for yet. With the expectation it may work on even larger future sizes, it required beefing up which we've achieved. It now has a proof torque just exceeding 400 ft-lbs, and will be coming 4th qtr of this year. Maybe early 4th quarter.

For the 4110 extra deep set, there isn't so much a "standard" set when it comes to chrome extra deeps like there is with traditional sockets sets. Like with most things in specialty, we make the kit around the applications we're targeting more than trying to check a box - and none of our field testers ended up using the 18 or 19mm prototypes that were made.

Not against the idea of expanding the offering in the future if people like the set, as we're known to do with socket sets. But our usual action plan is to keep sets high quality but affordable otherwise we won't make it, and we think we achieved that.

Astro,

With the 78300 wrench discontinued, do you have a suggested replacement in 17mm (with retaining ring) for the 3/8" Nano's?

78318, we make about an entire 18-wheeler truck load of them a month and still can't keep them in stock

A 10.5" long version will be debuting within the next month or so as well.

Is your pencil grinder suitable for polishing in the range of 7500-20K RPM (recommended for mini buffing wheels, cratex points, etc)? Or will it lose too much power running at well under half its max rpm of 56K?

Doh! My brain isn't working today. I've had my eye on the 78318 for a while but for some reason I momentarily thought it was for the 1/2" sockets.

Please post info/p.n. for the 10.5" version here when it's available.

Is Amazon's current ETA accurate? Delivery expected between July 29 - August 13 (as of this post).
I assume they're not available yet.

When are you going to send Fedwrench his cut? If you can't do that at least send him one of the 10.5" models.

Happy to send Fed both if he doesnt already have the XL.

Would be sooner than shown if I had a guess, as we've had them in stock for more than a week and have been shipping them out daily to tool sellers. We can put together a BOGO or something when they are in stock if y'all like

Fed already has the XL as he ordered two of them from me. I'm sure he'd appreciate a pair of the shorter one.

Astro,

I would really like this set of metric swivel sockets. Why aren’t you stamping the sizes in addition to the laser etch? It seems silly to skip.
I wonder that too. How much extra would that increase the price? Is the theory that end users are going to abuse these and wear them out before the last etching wears off so stamping isn't needed?

I wonder if it raises the price $1, $5, or $10 per set

I've had the 3/8 set since they came out and use them daily and they markings looks the same as when new not worn at all.

Hi Astro, question about mini die grinders and RPMs with Roloc bristle discs and surface conditioning discs -- around what max RPM grinder would you recommend if you want to use 3" discs? Dotco's documentation on their grinders generally only recommends 3" discs on slower models, like 12K max RPM, and the ones in the ~20K range they give an abrasive capacity of 2".

Also, would the same guidelines on speed vs size of abrasive apply for 3" vs 2" 3M radial bristle discs, or other bits like wire wheels where you're using the edge not the face?

Use a 3" roloc holder with a 20,000 RPM rating and you're pretty much set. 3" on a standard die grinder is very common. They are rated for free speed anyways, so in use you're seeing maybe 12,000-17,000 rpm. Sure you could spin it up as fast as you can in the air, then ram the edge into something sharp and it's more dangerous than a 2".
Just dont do that

Extra Deep 4110 BOGO tomorrow.
Plan to pair it with the not released yet 783105 10.5" flex head ratchet for 3/8" Nano sockets since it would be cool to get it before they are sold (come in next week). Or one other item someone could pick instead, to not require owning our nano sockets.
Is there a link to the bogo?

How does it work? I might be interested, but I have a friend who is definitely interested, but he's not on GJ. Is it going to be on the astro website or does it require a GJ membership.
We only do them on GJ, need to have a GJ account and also be a cool dude who doesnt just return your purchase (because it will tell us using the link we provide)
We'll make a thread tomorrow, then you basically PM us

The nano ratchet wrenches retain nano sockets (and those from several other brands now), but you can use a 17mm wrench or 17mm ratcheting flex head in its place. That might just be a larger overall tool and much past 90° the socket will fall out.

@Astro_Pneumatic_Tools have you ever seen the Vim extra deep sockets or measured them? I hear what you're saying earlier about not needing 18 or 19mm in extra deep but my OCD though... if I buy your 8mm to 17mm set, can I buy the Vim 18 and 19 as singles or are they much different sizes?

Never seen the VIM. I can make an 18 and 19 for you, might take a month or so. Dont have the tooling to brand them in place however.

Man, JUST in time...was gonna buy that ratchet from JDTCo tonight....PEEFECT timing. When will the BOGO go live?
Tomorrow, morning sometime

How well do the Nano 3/8" sockets work on ratcheting wrenches that dont have the retaining ring? Is it just annoying to use, or is it completely unusable?
There are workarounds ranging from nice store-bought flush inserts you put on the backside of the wrench for retaining the socket to just stuffing a piece of paper towel between the socket and the wrench. However, all of them are a compromise compared to the Astro wrench, and the Astro wrench is a pretty nice tool. Also, it sounds like we're going to see a shorter version of the wrench like... tomorrow so you should have options. I would recommend picking one up to go with the sockets.
