What's the COO on this snap ring plier set?
http://www.astrotools.com/default.aspx?toolsnum=9401&
If it's on the website and I overlooked it, sorry!

I got to say it looks identical to the HF set, http://www.harborfreight.com/11-piece-snap-ring-pliers-set-92374.html. If it is the HF set is flat out garbage. The tips bend if you look at them wrong. I gave mine away and felt bad for the guy that wanted them!

Sorry to bash your product astro but it's an honest review. Also not positive they are the same but they look like it so if they aren't disregard this.

Just my quick opinion on these....

These arent geared toward the pro/heavy use market....they are more-so for people who only work on their own cars & equipment. In that case they are more than adequate....and when you factor in the 8 snap-ring pliers for $22 on amazon ($3/each), its a very good choice for many people.

My first "set" of snap-ring pliers were the HF ones, and I only broke one tip after much use. Never broke one disassembling a ratchet or removing a ball joint snap-ring though. They are sloppy & will open up constantly, but they will get the job done.

That being said, as we all know MANY of the tool companies source from the same suppliers for certain tools. It is very possible that these are the HF ones, but I know for me personally, my HF is 80 miles 1-way from my house & Astro is one phone call away....so I would much rather be dealing with them if I had an issue.

I tried to use my HF set to rebuild an air tool and it couldn't do that. I didn't even try them on a car. From my experience the HF set isn't good for anyone or anything unless you like headaches. But who knows maybe I just got a bad batch or something.

Received my prize today. 1/4 and 3/8 Wobble Ratchets set. Generally pretty impressed with it to be honest. I wished it was finer tooth but for what it is designed and the retail price, it is pretty sweet.

I am happy to say that no matter which way the head is facing, the it ratchets smooth and consistent. It had no "dead spots" that I was concerned with. I just wish there was a way to oil the teeths and not have it become a dirt magnet due to the exposed teeths. Maybe in a updated version, there would be a flexible cover or something because I played with it a bit and found that once you lube it up, it actually becomes a pretty decently smooth ratchet.

Another area for improvement would be the direction switched. Since a wobble ratchet is supposed to be designed with clearance issue in mind. Why have a big protruding switch that may get stuck or caught on stuff? A recessed face would also improve the fit and finish as well as aesthetics.

Other then that, the ratchet feel solid, the handle length is well thought out, esp the 1/4 version in my personal opinion. Chromo is acceptable, certainly not as nice as say some of my Armstrong Maxx ratchets, but for what it is..... its good. Tho not sure about the longevity of the Astro logo on the handle tho.

Once I get more use with them, maybe I will pick up the 1/2 version if it proves to be handly. Or maybe Astro can also send me the 1/2 for free too. Fat chance right? LoL

Oh yeah pics

Does anyone have a review of the offset high torque wrenches? 7117 is the item number. They look interesting and unique, I don't think they're sold under another name, but I've searched online extensively and not seen a single review. [I'd love to change that if they're any to be given away :D] $80 is a bit high to pull the trigger blind.

I got a set handy, I can make a quick write up tonight.

Cliffs:Overall i think they are a great Taiwanese wrench set for the money. They fill a need, and perform outside of their specialized function as well. If you're looking for high gloss chrome and engraved labeling in order to match the rest of your wrench sets (I think laser printing is better for size identification anyways) then it may turn you off - but for the money considering there isn't a lot like it on the market it's a good buy.

This is one of those non-replacement sets that wont replace your standard open/closed end wrench set but if you break it out to get somewhere difficult you can use if for the rest of the job while its out because its versatile enough, aka not a one job tool.

The first thing you notice about the Astro 7117 is that it's not a high chrome finish, more of a satin (not quite matte) chrome - which to me is a nice stand out since high chrome is old hat at this point and you're not going to worry about finger prints and smears like you might on a nice SK set. The next thing is the foam packing it sits in once you unbox it. I'm liking these foam carriers the more I see them, a lot less bulky than blow molded cases and more stack-able than your mini standard wrench rack that many sets come in. Does take up more space in your box, though.

The wrenches are as nice as you could ask for. Nice positive bite on bolts and nuts. They do what they are designed to do in awkward locations where you need to get to a bolt and a 90 degree approach to the bolt doesn't lend too much movement with a traditional wrench. This is true in total angle of rotation and angle of approach to the bolt.

I've used these more as a breaker wrench for bolts and nuts that havent been touched in years. For this purpose, though, I wish they were about 1-2" longer - but I understand they were designed for awkward spaces so that might mix well. When you dont want to break a bolt loose with a ratchet and socket (or dont have enough vertical room for a ratchet assembly) and a Std. wrench doesn't offer the correct bite or enough rotation on the hex bolt, these do the job great - and will do the rest of the job well if it's a few bolts, but with many bolts I would try to switch to a ratchet/ratcheting wrench or something air powered as would be the case with any fixed wrench.
Another reason its well suited for breaking bolts is the 90 degree difference between the closed and open end. When using the box end, it really does make applying pressure to the other open end a lot easier and more comfortable (but you do lose clearance on that end).
They are advertised as high torque, I havent found an alloy for them yet - but they seem quite ding resistant thus far. I have hammered on a couple of the wrenches so far, including the 12mm pictured.

That largest and smallest wrenches in the set:

The wrenches seem display more of an offset off of a table than when in use (shown on table and on a bolt)

To the power cross ones? The only way those are the same is the 90 degree twist. They aren't offset for rotation or the wrenching angle from what I've seen.
Those def are cheap tho.

Why did Astro Pneumatic Tools get banned?

I often thought that they ought to be paying some kind of advertising fee for the amount of bumps and product offering posts. I work for IR and come on here mostly on my own time for two reasons; 1) help people out that may have questions about our products 2) I'm a tool and car guy and enjoy it. I occasionally will post about a new product offering but I don't treat the site as a source of advertising. Just my 2 cents.

I think their advertising has been relatively low-key, really. I mean, 374 posts since he joined in October of 2013, and many of those are replies to users.

And, quite frankly, it's loads better than people consistently resurrecting 2, 3 and 4 year old dead threads - I think there's 5-10 of those on the front page alone right now.

Hell, Astro's posts were even on-topic.

Was there a specific post that got astro banned, or just someone got upset? They came on here and helped many members, including myself. They even held give aways for GJ members. While he advertised his stuff it was always just about new tools. He didn't start new threads everyday about astro tools. He had one or two threads he updated. Also he would help anyone out with astro tool issues or questions. So now that he is banned we lost a great resource here on the GJ. Unless there was some post that crossed the line it is silly he got banned.

Hopefully the ban will be more of a "time-out" and not a permanent thing.....I looked at Astro's posts, and it seems they got a bit carried away promoting the newest offering (impact anvils) by resurrecting 4 year old posts......I always thought they did a great job at following up with people's questions and solving issues with their products.

Just a guess on my part but I suspect that the fact that he resurrected several threads on impacts to advertise the fact that they were selling knock off parts was probably what crossed the line. To be fair, others have done this very recently under the guise of just being a normal member and not saying they are representing a company It's pretty obvious when someone joins and their first 20 posts are how great Product X is and they are digging up 2 year old threads.

Well that's good. It must be a fine line to walk to be on here to help others and answer questions and show off new products without pushing too much. Hopefully they will stick around since he was really helpful to a lot of members and is a good asset to the GJ.

Just recieved my astro pneumatic 7846 harmonic balancer puller. Loved the included time saver tool catalog(already have axle nut set and seal driver in my amazon wish list). Likes are that a parts list was included and its taiwan not china. Dislikes are no harmonic balancer installation tool is offered in catalog( I bought a KD 3679)and no directions in kit(though i can figure it out).
