I was one of the guys drooling over the new light at SEMA. The dimming feature is pretty awesome. All too often I get blinded by the various lights I use in cramped areas. The magnetic swivel base is also a great feature. The light is thin too.

I really don't want to rain on your parade but the last thing I personally need is another product that lives on AAA batteries.

I would much rather it use the AAA then the coin batteries that the old model uses.

^This

Changing batteries I'm more likely to already have around, 4x less often via a port that doesn't require taking the face off with two hidden screws like the old design.

You have to try pretty hard to complain about that.

Still really wanting a 7785, but waiting for a killer deal. $118 shipped seems to be about bottom dollar on eBay and Amazon right now.

Have these ever been part of something like a Woot sale?

What he said.. We have these at work and changing the batteries means that all 3 of the units. will have to have dead batteries before someone makes time to change the batteries in them.

Make battery changes easier or better yet just make it rechargeable.

Hey guys, My name is Charles and I work with Astro.
If you have any questions about product or warranty just drop a line right here and I will be more than happy to do whatever I can to help!

First of all, hi Charles,
I have a few Astro air sanders - they work real good.

I live in S/W Ontario Canada and often drive State side into Port Huron Mi. to buy tools.

Looking for a hydraulic pump transfer system (1500-2700 psi, Fluid Pressure Ratio 15:1, High Pressure delivery) to spray wax-oil undercoat, like Fluid Film...good stuff, to combat vehicle corrosion, due to salted highways, during winter months.

FYI - Conventional & cheap air gun systems, produce a cloud of air mist that detards visibility (while spraying oil under a vehicle) and eat up a lot of expensive fluid.

Entry Level:
http://chemicar.com/
http://chemicar.com/
http://www.kellsportproducts.com/undercoatingguns.html
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001TZEIBM/?tag=atomicindus08-20
http://pro-teksprayequipment.com/products_details.php?id=290

Preferred Level:

- for example / RP 5G Pressure Pot System - Rustproofing complete system with 5G pressure pot
http://www.lemmer.com/contents/en-us/d36_rust-proofing.html
http://pro-teksprayequipment.com/products_details.php?id=289
http://www.graco.com/us/en/products/materials/protective-coatings/automotive-undercoating.html

^^ Hopefully Astro has a premium system or can manufacture it.
- so I can retire my vintage oil undercoat unit & enjoy easy and application $$ benefits

Cheers, Larry

I know you are always looking for new and innovative products, but there seems to be a big hole in the 1/4" air impact market. Most are like 50lbs of torque. I like how compact the Nano is, how about limiting the power to about 150lbs and putting in a 1/4 inch shaft? I got the 150lb number from the 1/4 Milwaukee so I think it is doable.

This is just my opinion so by no means law, but I head product development at Astro so can at least explain why we don't.

3/8 drive sockets already go as small in size as you should need. Actually, they already probably go too low for how powerful the 1828 is.

- If you're wanting a 1/4" impact of the same size it's telling me "3/8 sockets just don't go small enough."
- Fasteners of this size (roughly below 5/16"?) not only have small heads, but tiny thread diameters. And that's just the outside thread diameter, sold metal we're talking minuscule. Breaking off heads and stripping bolts is not a good goal to have,

You need a hog ring instead of a ball detent anvil so that its as strong as possible
- And even then it's pretty easy to melt with high working torque and IPM.

An impact ratchet is already going to be 2-2.5x shorter in profile.
- Our 1124 is "only" 50 ft/lbs at 90psi but it's also tiny. We can put a 1/4" anvil in a 3/8" impact ratchet body and get 110-130ft/lbs but there's been little demand for this sort of thing.

I don't think that this concept makes any sense. If I'm going to use a 1/4" impact I'm going to go with a cordless M12 tool. I see no purpose in a 1/4" impact. The 1124 impacting ratchet is the best air tool choice. 50 ft-lb is greater torque than any top engine bolts that attach air conditioning compressors or alternators use.

Who the hell wants to drag a 1/4 drive impact around attached to an air hose. :wtf: I don't think there's a hole in the 1/4 drive air impact market. I just don't think there's a 1/4 drive air impact market

I mean there are some great powerful and compact cordless models available from Milwaukee, the tool trucks, AC Delco, and others that would meet anyone's needs without dragging an air hose. The whole draw with 1/4 drive is compactness and you lose that with an air hose but, that's just me:dunno:

I have been looking at 1/4" air impacts recently. I do a lot of small engine work and use a cordless Dewalt impact driver with a hex adapter. It would be nice to not have to worry about dead batteries and I am sure the air impact would still be around long after a cordless tool manufacturer stops supporting a particular battery platform. It would also not cost much more than buying a 1/4" cordless impact.

Amen Give me air or give me death. I'm man enough to handle an air hose. Especially that yellow telephone looking hose coiled up above my assembly bench.
ZIP ZIP, bLow nozzle, die grinder, ratchet, impact 5 seconds.

That Ball Joint service set looks like a super buy.
Do you have dimensions on the cups/adaptors that are included?

Thanks.

That's what I was thinking too, but some think I'm crazy... and they don't even know me.;)
Anyway, I have many air tools that are 20+ years old. There are very few cordless tools that can achieve that kind of longevity. I don't think it would be that difficult to produce a decent powered 1/4" impact. Maybe someone will see this and come out with one that we can buy.

7865

I recently bought the 7865 ball joint kit, my first astro tool. I was surprised to see it only has a 1 year warranty. It seems heavy duty and don't plan to abuse it but the peace of mind in a warranty is a great thing to have. Why dont you offer lifetime warranties on your tools?

I mean no disrespect to you or your company but I am considering returning it because of this. Others seem to like your tools and i think its great that you reach out to the community so im sure regardless of what i decide im sure ill end up trying some more of your tools.

We provide a lifetime warranty on the same set under different brands, so quality wise I wouldn't worry about it.

As far as for us, it just depends on the category it falls under. We have lifetime warranty on other Astro tools, the 7865 just happens to not fall under hand tools so isn't grouped in with that warranty. Sorry for the disappointment.

I will say that anyone who's contacted me on here or anywhere else for a warranty repair or replace I've never asked them when they got it or for proof. Our process is about as easy as it gets. But i also understand where you're coming from.
