Talk about "product placement" ! Eric O. of South Main Auto has already got the paint pen out and named his !

Haha, I was happy to see that pop up on my YT subscription list.

We've never asked Eric to feature or use our tools on video. He was buying them and using them, and he seems to like them so now we keep sending him stuff he can use. Being the air hammer king of YoutTube, it was only right we send him one.

So where is your 3/8" lug nut set ? Or how about a 3/8" to 1/2" extension so we can use our Nano with our existing flip lug nut set !

Hey Chris,

FYI: I still couldn't order the digital tire inflator from Amazon, something about it being hazardous. The same for the 40SL light but I ordered both from JB Tools and they shipped via USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Box.

Eric O. seems to really like your tools. That's quite an advertisement if you ask me. Does AP have any plans to make more tools in the USA? If so, I'm interested. Thanks!

Being a manufacturer that doesn't sell direct, competing against manufacturers who make in the US and do sell direct makes certain categories untouchable for us. We understand this, it allows US made tools to more affordable than they would otherwise be. Also, some categories are no longer even here, for instance air tools of which there are no longer any US factories for us to even consider.

Of the remaining (specialty tools, abrasives, items that we can enforce a patent on to protect against foreign made copies) we will continue to consider and continue to manufacture in US factories. It will always be my #1 preference as long as the market bears the price point.

Okay, I just did the rear calipers on my Eurovan, and here's my Astro Pneumatic results.

The 78618 caliper wind-back tool worked great.

My new Nano 3/8" impact just wasn't up to the job of removing the 18mm caliper bracket bolts. In fact, on one side, even my 1/2" Craftsman Professional (made by Ingersoll Rand) wouldn't crack the bolts loose and I had to resort to old school muscle power and a long breaker bar.

So, the Nano may be a super tool, but everything's got limitations. I'm looking forward to trying it again on my next repair/maintenance project.

We provide a lifetime warranty on the same set under different brands, so quality wise I wouldn't worry about it.

As far as for us, it just depends on the category it falls under. We have lifetime warranty on other Astro tools, the 7865 just happens to not fall under hand tools so isn't grouped in with that warranty. Sorry for the disappointment.

I will say that anyone who's contacted me on here or anywhere else for a warranty repair or replace I've never asked them when they got it or for proof. Our process is about as easy as it gets. But i also understand where you're coming from.

I can verify this. He sent me a press body after it had had several revisions. I didn't even pay postage

Out of curiosity: What compressor, hose length, and hose diameter are you using?

Compressor: Campbell Hausfeld 11 gal, 125 psi, 2HP, running at 220V. I think it's 4 CFM continuous.

It was originally 110V, but I had a 220V outlet installed and changed the motor over to 220V. It definitely runs better, starts much quicker.

Hose: 15', 3/8".

That's probably your problem. That's a small compressor for an impact IMO especially 4cfm

Who knows?
I'd agree.

I've got a 60 gallon. My 3/8" Nano is a beast.

I normally use a IR 231 with an extended anvil for tire rotations. Just for giggles I tried the Nano. Zipped 'em off like it was nothing. I haven't had any issues with brake hardware either.

Question for Chris. Does Astro make a 3/4" breaker bar? I didn't see anything on the website.

Thanks,
Mike

Nope, although I did machine myself one out of solid 17-4 heat treated stainless that's pretty beefy if I do say so.

There are should be some affordable quality options already out there.

I got to use the AP 78619 Brake Tool kit last week and it worked just fine. I'm not sure I actually used the right adaptor for my Jetta but I found one that seemed to fit. As far as a complaint or anything goes it's like a lot of blow mold cased tools and nothing stays where it's supposed to be. Every time I open it the plates are all over everywhere but it doesn't effect the functionality of the tool. The only other thing I was thinking though while I was using it is why isn't it a ratcheting wind back tool! That would have been awesome. I'm happy with it for the price. I think I'm set for working on pretty much any personal vehicle. Sadly I have to use it again later this week as the pads and rotors I bought from AAP were totally the wrong ones. So I get to repeat a job I already did. :(

On the first trigger pull, with 125 psi in the tank, it doesn't make a difference how big the compressor is. The 4 CFM rating is for continuous duty.

The bolts were just on really, really tight, and had been on for several years. It took all my muscle with an 18" pry bar to loosen one side.

I didn't buy the Nano for lug bolts, but I'll give it a shot next time just for giggles.

That's the way it should work, but it's not always the case. The factory plumbing or regulator could be very restrictive on your compressor. This was what I found with my old compressor rated about the same as yours. Even at 150psi and with a short hose, my impact wrenches had anemic performance.

Has anyone here tried the astro reactionless 1/4" dr. air ratchet? I am thinking of getting one, but haven't seen much about them.

In theory but that's not always how it works. I just upgraded from a 2 stage 25 gallon to a 60 gallon. But it still doesn't have the same power as the 80 gallons I had when working in shops

If you've watched the south main auto channel on YouTube, Eric. O. Uses his and likes it a lot.

Sounds like regulator is set lower or hose/fittings are too restrictive.

When will the 4980 be available for purchase? Can't find one, I'd like to know what it costs.

Yeah, sorry about that. We rely on warehouses to purchase them and then distribute through where you would normally get your tools. I get some email, message, pm from another person every other day about where to buy these.

Ask you're go-to retailer to stock them and maybe there will be more on the street. I'm also told a few dozen more will be avail. thru amazon soon.

Whoever sold them thru Amazon previously must have not had a lot of them. Maybe I'll make a thread once I see them online again, I know they are hard to find right now.

Well i used the ds1000 door skin tool once more this week and i am thoroughly impressed! We have had it at work for as long as i can remember and one oldertech uses it frequently, he had me try it out a few times and i am hooked. A hammer and dolly go a long way but this tool makes it quick and easy.

Heres the tool itself: uploadfromtaptalk1458960876983.jpg

I purchased the 7785 diesel jump pack thru Auto Body Toolmart on eBay. When received, it wouldn't charge beyond the 3rd of 4 lights no matter how long I left it plugged in. I contacted Chris via PM here. His replies were prompt and he first sent out a new charger free of charge (no pun intended).

I was skeptical but the new charger seemed to fix the problem as the unit fully charged with it. Chris had said if this didn't do it he'd send me an entire new unit, and I believe it (but no need).

Really good service from AP.

Well I ordered the reactionless 1/4 air ratchet (through Auto Body Toolmart also so hopefully it's ok). We'll see how it does.

I will second this.
I think I have used every door skin tool on the market. This one is by far the best.
My one and only critique would be it would be nice to have a left and right version or a way to change directions.

I gotta brag on this tool.

20151117_191451_zpsfjjjj7dm.jpg

The nut rivet set 1442.

I am putting a lift gate on a Porsche Cayenne. That had 19 different rivet nuts I had to put onto the lift gate.
In the past I had the Marison rivet nut tool. I eventually threw that piece of **** away.
The 1442 did the trick quickly, easily and most importantly reliably.

If I have one critique it would be this. When you are done and spinning the threads out to remove it doesnt feel as nice as I think it should. Perhaps a bushing or something to make turning the mandril a little bit smoother and easier. Other than that the tool works like a champ. It's one of my favorite tools.

Saw the same thing. Couldn't find any reviews on Amazon even.

Got the idea from Eric O. from South Main Auto Youtube channel. Also tracked down a reasonable eBay deal on a swivel air connection by looking at his videos, as it seemed like it would help avoid wrestling with the air hose.

Decided to buy one and it arrived last week. Set it up on Friday. Haven't used it yet, but it looks nice. It seemed to be a reasonably priced, but quality, tool for the DIY stuff I do. Bought it for a head gasket job coming up; I'm excited to try it out. Also got a 1/2" Nano impact wrench for the tight spaces, and an angle die grinder.

Does anyone have any hands on experience with the Astro pneumatic board sanders? Looking at the 15" 888C, little bit more expensive than the seemingly equivalent IR one ....and they all look like and basically have the same specs as the $30 Harbor Freight one.. I'd just want to buy whatever one will last awhile and work right but cant really justify something like a Hutchins

Im considering the new 3/8 air ratchet but the price tag is high - even more expensive than the stubby 1/2 nano. What makes this one so expensive and is it worth it?

It's small, light, it's an impact so it removed bolts and even wheel lugs (I was playing around).
