Time to buy a 3-D printer Chris.

Purpose of prototypes are to test design strength and durability. 3D printed versions just give you a housing to put your PCB in, and you still have to design and print the new PCB.

I can just hook up switches to a functional PCB and 18650 to confirm something will turn on.

We designed one from scratch starting with 3D drawings, then prototypes. It's the bees' knees. Along with polling people here, we asked a couple dozen shops what they were looking for. Then we met with some industry execs for what they've been looking for. We had a couple hundred responses when done. Wrapped it all up in one design.

Won't be under our brand first, however:sad:
Plus, I expect it to cost more than what we've offered thus far. 77% of those asked said they'd pay more than the norm for something that incorporates the features/design they're looking for.

Keep us updated with developments on this new light as you are allowed

Many years ago I asked my local Mac guy for some extra parts for my current air drill, because I had an old air drill well out of warranty that needed a part and I wanted to keep a few as I was using these every day.
He got back to me with a number.
I called the number "Hello, Astro Pneumatic"

That's the first time I had heard of Astro.

Eric O. put you guys on the map ! You need to send him more T-shirts !!

Well, GJ helped a lot also !!

Cool to see this thread.

I recently bought your Astro 9448 security bit set. I've used them a few times already and the quality appears top notch. The 1/4" 'socket' that securely holds the bits is a nice touch too. I didn't notice that in the product description so it was a nice surprise to see.

I'll definitely be able to get into things that I probably shouldn't now too.

Im looking to pull the trigger on a pneumatic angle grinder and I noticed you guys sell a set that included an angle, straight and a set of carbides that looks to be promising. But Im also seeing a similar set i.e 2 grinders and some burrs.

Can you comment on the main differences between the two sets 1221 and 219? The 219 being the "better" kit I assume offers what more power, more RPM, lighter, more durable, better burrs? For the small difference in price Im inclined to go for the 219 but Im curious as to the differences before I make my purchase. Thanks in advance!

The 219 kit contains the composite-body Onyx tools. The Onyx stuff would be the more "premium" gear that Astro makes.

I've got the 1221 kit, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it at all, but the 219 kit would technically be "better".

Both kits have the same absolutely superior 2181 carbide burr set.

Spot on.

Form a nuts and bolts side of things, the 219 includes 1/3HP die grinders, where as the 1221 includes micro grinders which take up less space and are around 1/4HP.

Wow thanks for the prompt responses guys! Im just a hobbyist so I dont need the best of the best but prefer to buy quality tools whenever I need something vs the cheapest option. From the sounds of it both kits will serve me well so I doubt Ill notice a difference between the two. I just wasnt sure if there was anything significantly different.

But I will say I like the added power potential so Im inclined to stick to my gut and pick up the "premium" 219. One thing however you mentioned was the smaller packaging. Being that my main motivator for finally getting something like this is for grinding down welds in hard to reach places, in my case currently fixing a rusted out snowblower housing and cleaning up the inside. Space is tight and my 4.5" angle grinder cant reach the inside corners. Im guessing the difference in sizes between the two is negligible and while technically the 1221 is smaller the 219 isnt some behemoth?

Thanks for the feedback. Incase you havent noticed I over analyze things before purchasing; its just my nature! Speaking of which Im eyeing the 3/8" nano impact wrench so Im sure Ill have some questions on that shortly! Thanks again!

Hey Chris, I'm one of the guys who won a 40sl months ago and just wanted to say I use that light almost exclusively now. I love it! Can't wait to see what you guys put out next.

I need to buy another 40sl. I love that light I use it professionally. I've looked at the other offerings the 12sl and the other one, but they don't seem as good as the 40

I'll add on. 40SL is my go to light now as well. The dial drives me nuts when I'm holding it but it's a great light to stick on and work with.

I also love my 40SL, which really makes me look forward to the new one Astro is coming out with.

Count me in as a happy 40SL light owner. If I had one negative comment about it would be how easy it is to dim the light without meaning to. At first I thought it was defective as I had just charged it. Then I realized it was me moving it around and hitting the dial.

Once I realized what I was doing it's been fine :)

Hi Chris

what type of grease do you recommend for your impact tools. I oil them with Marvel Mystery oil. But after a year or so of home shop use its probably time to grease them. The only grease I see on line is the IR stuff and it seems rather costly as though you are paying for a name or something.

Thank you for any info

Same here, the dial is the only negative. When I'm done using it I turn it off then remove it from wherever I set it. Then I put it on my tool box and notice it's on again. Must have rub on myself or something. All in all despite that, it's a great light.

Hey Chris, this is awesome that you answer questions here!

I have the 40SL rechargeable LED slim light and I love it. I wonder, does the "-SL" stand for sunlight, meaning that this light is suitable for colormatching? I see that the 50SL light is advertised for color analysis with a CRI of 97. The price on the 50SL makes it a no-brainer but if my 40SL can do colormatching already, that would be the icing on the cake.

Chris, Now we have all seen the toy trucks. Snap-on-Matoc-Mac at one time or the other.Has "Astro" had any intent of a truck on wheels?Your tools appear to have a mostly favorable rating. Personally I think this could be worth looking into.JMHO, Ken

Light showed up just a bit ago.

Damn, this thing is amazing! It's getting officially used tonight/tomorrow!

Eric O. made me buy one. Well, not directly, but subliminally.

Sending him that light was quite possibly the highest ROI advertising ever. :lol_hitti

Its pretty awesome.

Only thing I found I don't like about the light is the slide dial. I pretty much keep it at max all the time and found that when I pick the light up the dial has such little resistance that I keep inadvertently turning it down while holding it. A little annoying.

My 2 cents but i'd like to see it with a simple 2 or 3 mode switch.

Time frame on availability? I don't want to purchase a 40SL and have something better available next week, But I'm ready to purchase something!!

Bought the 1/2" nano, 40sl, ball joint press adapters, 3/8 mini impact ratchet, and a HOST of other astro tools based on Eric O's recommendations. Full time auto tech here and don't regret a single purchase.

Couple other updates.

40SLMAX, as suggested in another thread, is now being manufactured. Power to the people.

I will also be making a giveaway thread tomorrow based on a past request and interest in our new 1443A small hand rivet nut setter. I will also be likely choosing a few other new items to giveaway in the same thread.

Chris, As of now I have not killed the 3/8 ratchet that was kindly sent to me.It is now one of my favorite air tools. You mentioned that you were going to send me a set of 3/8 impact sockets. I have as of now still have not received them. I am sure that you have many irons in the fire but this may have slipped your mind.Just thought that I would mention it. Thanks for your time, Ken

Hi Ken,

Refer to post #876. These 4 boxes are the new sets in 1/2" and 3/8". They are not out on the market yet, will be soon. I made a re-design of the internal structure for increased durability, resulting in the delay.
