Was deciding between a CP717 and the AT4980 and went with Astro because Astro is good to work with for warranty issues. Plus Chris of Astro Tools is a member here and is a joy to wok with.

Apparently they are basically identical. Actual CP717s are no longer made in Japan and come out of Taiwan too.

Thanks for the info. That was one of the reasons why I was going with the CP but changed my basket to the Astro.

To my knowledge they are still making them in Japan as well, just depends on where they are being sold into but I know I've seen both Japan and Taiwan COO.
For this tool, warranty support wouldn't be the deciding factor for me because these just don't quit on you - either brand. Just buy the one that's the best deal including used.
