Part 1: History of The 1593-1
So back in June of 2018 we moved into our new home. It was my parents retirement /lake house that they never had the chance to live in. Thier plan was after my dad retired they would move up here, unfortunately they never got the chance because of my moms health and passing soon after my dad retired. The house was built in 1996 and my mom passed in 2002 the year after my dad retired. My dad never moved here and refused to sell it, he just hung on to it in my moms memory. In early of 2017 my father was diagnosed with alstimers and could not drive anymore at the age of 82. My sisters and I made the decision to sell the house to help with my dads needs as they were going to increase with his sickness. In the spring my wife and daughter drove my father up to check the house and to see what needed to be done to sell the house. Boy where we blown away at the state of the house, me wife and daughter cried when they saw the house that day. I took pictures and sent to my sisters to show them and we needed to figure out what to do. My sisters asked if my family would clean and get the house ready to sell because of my work schedule we could spend more time here to prepare the house. The summer was spent every weekend coming here and cleaning, as the weeks went by we noticed we were sad when heding home. We talked about it and decided to ask my sisters if they would be ok with us buying this house. They agreed and in June of 2018 we moved in, and the house stayed in the family. This is the state of the house the first day we came here with my dad. More to come soon.

Looked a little overgrown and neglected but nothing insurmountable. What have you done to it so far?

You're pretty new here and we LIKE pictures. Best of luck.

Thanks Dan your 100% right!! It took time and effort but it's getting there. Seeing the house go from brand new to that state was, was an eye opener for sure. This is how the house looks as of September 2021JPEG image.jpeg
This is about the same view of the house from the street as in the first post.

Part 2: History of the 1593-2
I'm still learning how to post stuff here so I hope I'll get better as time goes on, I'm not promising anything lol.
O.K. back to the story, this isn't my first house or garage in fact it's my third house but the first one I bought with my wife. My last house was the house I got married in and brought our daughter home to. We loved the house but the neighbor was changing and we wanted a houe we both picked out. This house has everything we wanted in a house. I have to explain how the house fell into such a state, we loved my dad and this house, and he always made it clear that it was OUR family house. My sisters and I all had access to the house whenever we wanted to come up and stay, however things changed and my dad started spending time with a woman for companionship, I don't blame him for this as I'm sure he was very lonely. But, soon after she came into the picture my dad started complaining about the way we cleaned the house and used it. My sisters and I decided that it was to much arguing to continue to use the house so we stopped using the house and my dad seemed happier. Well, early into my dads sickness and when my sister took over his finances his "friend" stopped being his friend. It's sadbut it seems to happen a lot. In the few years we stopped coming here that's when the house fell in neglect.

With that out of the way lets get into some GARAGE TALK!!
7D6C96E6-AC3C-4A27-A2AC-B5FA5C7FCE8A_1_105_c.jpegF83E78C8-C42B-4D0C-8C4D-B2C2535B9302_1_105_c.jpeg
The above pictures show my last garage on the last day we owned it, I did so much in that garge and have great memories from it.

This is some pics. of the first day we moved in to the new house.1DA03B3A-4C42-4004-928B-5FFA77B21C09_1_105_c.jpegACEE982E-45A7-4559-BC80-34D5E3B934A1_1_105_c.jpeg
It was a total mess and I drove me nuts. Of course the last day of moving it was 100+ degrees out and I got a little overheated and didn't feel so well for a couple of days. More to come on the cleanup and setup STAY TUNED!

Part 3: The Clean Up

As you can see in the above post the garage was a total mess after we moved in, it was hot and there was so much to do at that time that the garage was put on the back burner for a while. One problem with buying this house was that my dad didn't anything he had here so I was kinda stuck with his stuff too.lol. night post 1.jpeg
This is a picture of the night I moved just my cars here.
Clean up 1.jpeg
Here is the first picture from the day I started to clean up. Can you see the diferance? hahha
So here is the progress of cleaning up and sorting out what to keep and what not to keep. Everything of my dads that was sold went to him for his care. My sisters were surprised at some of the stuff I was able to sell off.
Clean up 2.jpegclean up 3.jpegclean up 4.jpegclean up 5.jpegclean up 6.jpegclean up 7.jpegclean up 8.jpegclean up 9.jpeg

So as you can see it was a lot of stuff I was dealing with. My full garage plus my dads full gargae cramped into one garage.
Hope you like what you see MORE CLEAN UP TO COME

Hope you update us on the Olds also, I have a 1947 coupe and a 4 door sedan
J P It's so nice to hear from another Olds owner. Not to many around, at least where I live. It's a fun story about the Olds and I can't wait to tell it. It's coming up in the future so stay tuned.

Glad to see that you were able to keep the house in the family and are giving it the TLC it deserves. Nice work so far! What are the dimensions of the garage?

Part 5; Wet Paint!

For a time I didn't know how I wanted to set up the garage, I like to wash and detail cars and I like to fix them and I am in the process of building a couple of cars. Right now I have to keep yard tools and bicycles and other things in there until I get a shed built. Also I believe in creating a space that you enjoy being in and you will be there more and do better work. So, I had to think about my setup and how to utilize my space properly. Earlier this year when the wether started to warm up a bit I decided that this year I was moving forward on my garage space. We planned a bunch more yard work to do but I was set on the garage project too. The first step was to pick a nice color all my other garages where white and I never really liked it much but it was OK. JPEG image 21.jpeg
Yep thats the right color and it sounds nice too, Soulful Grey.
Now to get to the painting; first wallJPEG image 2.jpegwall 1.001.jpegwall 2.001.jpegwall 4.001.jpeg
I had some fun with this project as I don't really care for painting I just went at it as one wall at a time, paint and set it up then move to the next wall.JPEG image 10.jpeg
This was the way I planned to set up this wall just some cabinets to hold my cleanning stuff, this wall has been chenged since this picture more on that at another time though.
Second wall,IMG_1305.JPG
Same color, this is the back wall and I want to have this set up to be my work shop area.IMG_1313.JPG
This is how this wall finished up, the area on the right is going to be my fab area. Not that I'm some big time fab guy I just want a welding table and some thing to make working easier.
On to the third wall;JPEG image 17.jpegJPEG image 20.jpeg
This wall is the wall Iam currently using for yard tools and such, My fab area has been designated as bicycle parking and lawnmower storage for now. I really need to start planning on a shed BAD. Well I tried making paint dry look fun I hope you guys liked this.
MORE TO COME, STAY TUNED!

That is so cool j p. My olds was given to me by a friend who had it given to him, I guess no one wanted my Olds. I have to warn you it was a complete POS when I got it but I wasn't married and had time money to spend on it. I am looking for pictures from when I got it and can tell the store of it soon. Stay tuned

Hi jbrentd, it's funny that you mention TLC for the house, while we would be out working on the house people would stop on the golf carts(yes we can drive golf carts here) and tell us they are so happy to see the house changing. Some people told us they called it the hunted house on the hill! LOL. I can't believe I forgot to mention the dimensions of the garage!!! It's 22wX26d I'll have to mention that in another post. Thanks for the interest and I hope you stay tuned for what's coming.

Awesome story so far, can't wait to see it develop. Love the cars and how you're setting things up.

I see some vintage aviation stuff on that wall. An old FAA sign, the Cub one, and one or two others? Are you a pilot or just an enthusiast?

Ok, you won me over with the Indianapolis banner. ❤️
Ahh the Indy banner. It was so nice to be young and do stupid stuff. LOL Little story about that banner, every year my friends and I would go to the PRI show in Indianapolis every December. Well this goes back some 25-30 yers ago, but, one year they had all these cool banners all over the place and over the weekend we noticed them disappearing. Well one early morning while we were walking back to the hotel after a long night at the bars I spotted this banned right in the downtown area right outside the enterance for the show. So, it as a challange to get that banner, and, under the lights of the building I swiped that banned from the garbage can it was wrapped around. I was fumbling around trying to be all sneaky when my buddy ran up to me and said "slow down and roll it up nice and tight". LOL I still remember that. Well after we rolled it up and stuffed in my jacket a police car drove by and waved to us! LOL That banner stayed rolled up from that night until this year when I put it up! HA, I guess that wasn't a little store, sorry, but I'm here with a big smile on my face. I'm glad I won you over and you hope you keep coming back for more.

Hi wreckdiver1321, I'm an A&P mechanic that used to work on vintage airplanes, now I work and an airline at O'Hare. I've been there so long that it's lost it's "sizzle" for me now it took 25 years but now I'm not that interested in any of that anymore. Thanks for the interest.

Fair enough, I thought there may be a connection. My dad is a recreational pilot and was an ATC for 25+ years, so I grew up around airplanes. Saw some stuff I recognized.

I love stuff like that. I've collected quite a few tchotchkes the same way. I've also been to PRI show the last dozen or so years (pre-COVID obviously).

(y) (y)
The PRI show was always a great time for me, after my friends started getting married it was harder and harder to keep going. It was the only time of year we all got together and spend time together. Now we mostly stay in touch on social media ans texting, it's so sad.
Now this is becoming my social media since I don't go on the other sites now.

So, this is the way I got sucked into garages and how cool they can be.JPEG image 2.jpeg
I bought this book when we went to the book store because my then fiancé wanted to buy some magazines on weddings. Of course I wandered off and was in the car section of the magazine racks. But, on the way out I saw this book and grabed it and didn't flipped through it I just put it on the counter and paid for all the stuff we got. When I dropped my fiancé off she grabbed the bag and went in her house for the night. About a week later she gave me the book and I was up all night with this book and started my dreaming of my Ultimate Garage.
JPEG image.jpeg
This book showed up today and I'm so excited to flip through it but it's going to have to wait. I'm not sure if these books have been mentioned on here or not, or, if the garages in these books have a thread here.

Checkerboard Wall?
In early April I helped a buddy clean out his storage shed and he gave me a couplr of boxes of checkboard self adhesive tile so I got a silly idea. Why not use them on a wal in the garage? So one morning I started and it was done in no time.....

BEFORE
IMG_1281.JPG
So if you recall this is how this wall was finished when I painted the garage.
JPEG image 4.jpeg
AFTER,
This is how it was the end of the day. Looks good but, soon after the tiles started falling off. So I got some spray adhesive and started reinstalling them again.
IMG_1308.JPG
JPEG image 2.jpegJPEG image 3.jpeg
JPEG image 12.jpeg
This is the finished project, I'm so happy with the way it turned out I'm sure there will be other tweeks in the future but I'm happy.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE!

Digging the ranger! What dollies did you use to slide it into position against the wall? I'll be doing the same with mine.

Also, do you have any pictures with yard equipment on the wall yet? I need to do something similar while I wait on a shed.

That looks awesome! I never would have thought of that for a wall, but it turned out great.
Thanks wreckdiver1321, the wall turned out just the way I hoped it would. The wall is next to the door so people can see it as they drive by and can you believe a couple of people stop to ask about. I like telling the people how I did it.

Very cool, thanks! I think I'll spring for the $60 ones just so I don't have to worry about tire width. Lots of people on Average Middle Class Garages and Obsessed Garage said vehicle dollies were Buy Once Cry Once items and recommended spending $800 on a set, but these will only be used twice a year so $120 for all sounds a lot better to my wallet
