Love the story you have behind your garage @cool50. Subscribed for updates!
Thanks jeepster1407, It's been fun and frustrating at times but always rewarding. Stay tune for more to come for sure. This forum has replaced social media for me so I'll be hanging around here more often when I get time.

The Fog Light

Well about a month ago I hit a raccoon on the way home from work. I was going about 70 MPH and he/she must have been a good 15-20 pounder. I didn't think much because I just herd a little bang sound and felt nothing. Well when I got home and looked at the car I was shocked to see the damage that thing caused.JPEG image 13.jpeg
Busted out fog lamp. what a bummer but nothing to bad. Off to ebay to buy a new fog lamp and cover plate. Since I was going to get the cheap after market ones I ordered the pair to change both side. That was a fiasco to say the least. they were delivered and I was so excited to fix the cr and when I opened the box.JPEG image.jpeg
Thats right look close, there both for the right side, so after a few emails and pictures sent they were sent back and a full refund was given. I ended up finding a used OEM left one far about the same price so I ordered it and had to wait again. It came in on Tuesday so today I was able to swap it out. JPEG image 9.jpeg
JPEG image 5.jpeg
It wasn't to bad to change but the after market cover doesn't fit to well but it'll work. All good now.
JPEG image 6.jpeg
I had to bag the plug for about 3 weeks I'm glad it was safe. The next picture shows the damage to the lamp took but the lens stayed together.JPEG image 10.jpeg
the car is a 2017 and has 171000 miles on it so I'm glad I got it fixed for under $100. Thias was a little late Friday afternoon project I wanted to share hope you enjoyed.

That’s a lot of miles for a 4 yo car. Did you put all those miles on it or buy it used?
I wouldn’t be able to drive that many miles a year.
Nice fix on the fog light.

Hi Jayman17, hahaha I bought the car in 2018 with about 20000 miles. Yeah that's is a lot of miles about 200 a day 4 days a week. It's all on the highway at odd time of day so very little traffic to deal with. If it was in rushhour times in Chicago? NO WAY could I handle that. lol Thanks for the kind words on the repair.

The Door!

Since I finished painting to garage my eyes always fell upon the door. unfinished door.001.jpeg
I didn't know what to do and it bothered me so much. I mean look at it, it's so plain.
Then after I did the checkerboard wall I found some drawer linerpaper that was checkerboard so I tried something.
JPEG image 2.jpegJPEG image.jpeg
Better but not good enough, it still was not there. So.....JPEG image 4.jpeg
One day I found a new can of gloss black spray paint and got an idea. Why not? A few hours of work.
JPEG image 5.jpeg
After I painted the trim I painted the step too. The wall under the door didn't look right to me so one day at menards I got ANOTHER idea...
JPEG image 6.jpeg
I think it loos better but....... Needs som finishing.JPEG image 14.jpegJPEG image 15.jpeg
There all finished up. I think it turned out good. But, what's on the other side? STAY TUNED.

Nice,

I hit a 15-20lbs raccoon in my Mini Cooper and totaled it. $4800 in damages. Funny thing is, it does not look like much damage. But OEM parts cost a premium for the BMW era Coopers (bumper cover, core support, radiator, intercooler(Not OEM), fog lamp, LCA, wheel bearing, down pipe(Not OEM) and a few other odds and ends). I really miss that car, was ~425hp to the wheels. And only weighed ~2800lbs or so with me in it.

The Door Pt.2?

Well I have to say, like so many others I have an AWESOME wife! We all do if they let us do what makes us happy. For the last couple of years my wife an daughter( who is just as awesome as my wife) have been gifting me stuff that they know I'll like. So, what makes me happy is able to hang some of the stuff they get me inside our house!JPEG image 12.jpegAbove is the hallway leading to, you guessed it, THE GARAGE! Most of the things here the girls got me over the years.JPEG image 11.jpegJPEG image 10.jpeg
It's nice that when people visit they always compliment this hallway and so they have an idea that I'm a Garage guy.
Hope you liked this little post. More to come.

It was my birthday yesterday and I have to say it is awesome that my girls know me so well, they really know what I like. I like metal signs, new ones are just fine with me. I don't need a vintage sign that coast a bunch of money. If I run across one I will consider it but in the end I don't really like to spend to much on them. So this was one of the gifts I got. Oh, if your wondering the cake they made was delicious!!

Double chocolate!! I love it.

Summer’s over, so sad.
Well it’s early November in northern Illinois. That means I gotta get ready for snow at any time. So today was the day, cleaned the front yard and put the garden tools and mowers in the storage shed 67A1BD9F-D4CB-4D57-9E46-40A621890D4B.jpeg
I had to get the snowblower out and running, thank God that didn’t take long. Covered the Olds too.1BC24675-9EF6-44F7-8B5B-A22843687C72.jpeg

Hey neighbor, just caught your thread and subscribed.
I am going to get one more mow before I put the mower away before next weekend.
I also wanted to mention totally covering your AC condenser is Not recommended.
You can read about the "Pros and Cons" on the subject, just click on the link.
Prepping for winter is something I do too, hope the drought continues till next spring as I hate the four letter word, Snow.

Hi ambient, a fellow northern Illinois resident who understands the crazy weather we deal with. Your right about the A/C cover and I will adjust it, it was windy yesterday and It was a pain in the behind getting it on by myself. I'm just happy I got it on befor the 4 letter word came. Last year the drifting on the backside of the the house was horrible, the A/C was almost completely covered.I hope it doesn't happen this year. Like you said lets hope the drought continues.

Back Yard; Part 1.

Well, it's about 35 degrees out tonight so I thought I would spend a minute to show some of the back yark transformation.
Still more to do but it's getting there.

It's the similar view of the yard, as you can see we did have a small vineyard but after I assume a number of years of neglect the grapes were mostly dead and not productive. So, they had to go. I wasn't that interested in making wine by myself, it was more my dads thing so I did it with him.

Hi cool
I just found your thread tonight and read thru it.
Nice save on the family property. I had to stop and look carefully at the 2nd picture of the garage magazine you posted. I've been in that garage.

So, this is the way I got sucked into garages and how cool they can be.JPEG image 2.jpeg
I bought this book when we went to the book store because my then fiancé wanted to buy some magazines on weddings. Of course I wandered off and was in the car section of the magazine racks. But, on the way out I saw this book and grabed it and didn't flipped through it I just put it on the counter and paid for all the stuff we got. When I dropped my fiancé off she grabbed the bag and went in her house for the night. About a week later she gave me the book and I was up all night with this book and started my dreaming of my Ultimate Garage.
JPEG image.jpeg
This book showed up today and I'm so excited to flip through it but it's going to have to wait. I'm not sure if these books have been mentioned on here or not, or, if the garages in these books have a thread here.
Like I said I've been in that garage. A friend of my son and his dad maintain hotrod collectors cars. I was trying to come up with an idea for my big garage and these guys invited me to come with them to see this great themed garage that they were working in that week.
It was this garage and here are some pic's that I took of it.
Hope you don't mind me posting them here.

It was the light on the station roof and the used brick that gave it away.

Hi Don, thanks for the kind words about our property. I have been enjoying your garage post so much, I hope you enjoyed reading through this little thread. I'm absolutely blown away at your "Big Party Garage". In fact I am using your diner as inspiration on my basement project I'm working on now! My wife and I always dreamt of having a diner as a basement and yours is so cool, I've even showed my wife it several times. She Loves it too.

Back Yard; Part 2, Evergreen Removal

So before my parents built the house we planted trees onthe property. My mom suffered a Stroke, it was bad and she spent months in the hospital. One weekend my dad took me and my older sisters up here to plant 3 evergreen to help us get our minds off the situation with my mom. After months of hospital visits a day out and with my family was great, I remember is as it was yesterday it was in 1984. When they decided to build the house they had to move two of the evergreen trees, We believe the neighbor stole one and the other one died a year later. The one that wasn't moved grew big and beautiful. Unfortunately..... it was to close to the house. So, a sad decision was made to remove the evergreen we planted so many years before. It was so sad having to cut down a tree I spent 30+ years grow.
Evergreen.001.jpeg
As you can see in the picture the red circle is the tree that had to go.
So, we called a young man and his brother to come take it down, it's so nice when you find a good company and you are 100% happy when they are done with the job.

The young man by himself was so fast I almost missed the whole process.
Evergreen 1.2.jpegIMG_6690.jpegIMG_2978.jpegevergreen 3.jpeg
Here you can see Beans our dog is even happy with the work he did.
evergreen 6.jpeg
IMG_1335.JPG
Nice and flush. The stump was ground up about a year later after they cut down about 8 more trees on the property. I don't enjoy cutting down trees but I'll explain later why they had to go.
See ya soon.

Yes
It helped to see the facades and how they built them. I remember thinking that I must find a signal light to put in mine

Basement Project Pt. 1

Well the weather here is starting to turn cold. One big thing I have to get done in my garage is a heater but that’s going to have to wait for now. But since it’s cold out it’s a good time to work in the basement and finish it. My dad framed it out and put up insulation but never ran any electric to this side of the basement so, I had to take down the installation and get outlets and switches and can lighting in. I managed to get an electrician in and get a little done over the weekend even though we had out of state guest staying at our house and my daughter received her confirmation Sunday. It was a busy weekend with guest and a party but still got started. He ran the wires and placed the boxes and planned out the lighting.JPEG image.jpegJPEG image 2.jpegJPEG image 3.jpegJPEG image 4.jpeg
He is coming back this week sometime to finish roughing it in so I can finish insulating and drywall. Before we got married we always thought it would be cool to have a 50’s diner in a basement, well this is the start of that it’s taken about 20 years but it’s started. I guess better late then never. Lol
Stay tuned for more

Christmas Time!!!

Well, not to much going on right now in the garage but the house has been busy. We got our Christmas decorations up and got in the spirit of the season. Did use the garage a little repairing the lights that didn't work but thats the extent of garage use lately. Good news is after about 18 months work has been offering overtime so I have been working more. Here are some shots of the house after we got the light up. Hope you enjoy, see ya soon.

Working IN the garage!!

Had to do a couple of oil changes today before I go back to work. Weather wasn't to bad but it's going to get cold around here this week. I love being out there in that garage even if it's just a boring oil change on our daily cars. P1010110.JPGP1010111.JPG
