I've seen that tool mentioned on either the Outback or Forester forum with mixed results. I'm going to do something similar utilizing an old brake rotor. I think I have a hub replacement in my future. You're right, Subaru hubs in the rust belt are no fun at all.

key to that tool is to load the suspension so that there is very little give when hammering on the tool. best idea is to place a floor jack or jack stand under the suspension before hammering on the hub shocker from my experience

I've used that probably 7 or 8 times and it worked great... ny state salt/rust here. Takes me 4 or 5 good hits with small sledge to get it out. Never supported suspension like suggested above but that seems like really good idea.

I have one of those. I've replaced the nuts, but otherwise it's been great. 10lb sledge moves most hubs. Sometimes rear hubs are so stuck they pull the backing plate and ebrake shoes with it. Then you whack that out with the 4lb sledge.

It's one tool in the box. Nothing will win 100% of the time in the rust belt.
