Ok, so I see the thread on "who makes the best what?" and i dont want to hog the thread.

#2 son (17 years old) bought a 665 Mustang - horray for the kid - he likes his old car. anyhow, dad here wants to help him and buy some hand tools. But it has been so long since I bought anything I dont even know where to begin. the local tool guy suggested ATD tools to me.

Any comments, good bad or indifferent? What should I look at for him?

My parents got me a 200+ piece Craftsman mechanics tool set when I was 16. I used the **** out of it, and still have most of the tools today as my road kit in the truck. I broke some tools either being dumb or using them for the wrong application, and it was nice to be able to warranty them locally.

I use some of the stuff to keep on equipment. It is the "house" brand at some auto parts stores of China knock off stuff but it is spec'd by them and very good. As for common hand tools I might look at Menards, the Allen stuff is good and USA made. For cheap that Pittsburg stuff is hard to beat, some of it is so unbelievably low priced its tempting, in sets wrenches under a dollar and sockets at 60 cents. Add a set of better 6 points for when they are needed on rusty fasteners.
