Hello to all ATHA hammer experts, I'm new here and know nothing about this hammer.
I'm wanting to try out a bit of blacksmithing, but don't have the funds for a proper anvil, so I decide I'll find the biggest sledge hammer I can find and use that as a makeshift anvil.
I found a monster hammer with a broken handle at the local flea market...this thing would make Thor jealous. I got it home and weighed it....24lbs. I got to thinking, nobody makes hammers that big, it must be old. Started looking for any markings and found a faint mark on top. After 2 hours of research I discovered it's an ATHA stamped with a 2 4 on the opposite side of the handle hole. I can't find anything about this hammer anywhere online, is this thing some kind of "holy grail" of hammers? I know it's over 100 years old, but exact year I'm just curious.
And NO, I'm not going to use it as an anvil, and there's no way I could swing this thing. It needs to be somewhere it can be properly used and admired. I want to know what was this bohemeth made for?
Any info would be appreciated.

I had found that actually, I haven't seen anything on specific year dating or a single picture or mention of this exact hammer. If someone has an early ATHA catalog, I'd love to know more.
