Hello! I was wondering if anyone could help me answer some questions about a Athol vise I purchased. I was wondering if it was missing a piece to the base and what type this is. I was unable to use any of the numbers on the code to find it in any of the catalog listing I’ve seen. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

As I guess you now see, it sat on a base and to complete the vise it had a washer under the workbench. The other #83 photo's base looks to be different from what you would need.

Got to love the old Athol Vises. That model was manufactured from at least the 1890's and possibly earlier to the 1910's.

Your swivel nut and handle are not OEM Athol Machine Co. and actually look very Charles Parker to me. Here's some Athol vise examples from that era with the proper swivel handle / nut and hardware.

Either way, it's a very nice example of an old Athol machinist vise and I like it!

Excellent! Very helpful. Thank you very much. I’ll be on the hunt to make this one whole again.

You're welcome. What size is the center bolt (dia)? I may have something laying around. Not period correct of course or exactly the same profile. Your project.
(edit)This could be your bottom washer.(edit)

Hey akasrick, the bolt is 6cm. I do appreciate that. I am still learning about these and am just getting started on this as a hobby. Is there any adversity to taking this vise apart and putting it in a hydrolysis tank for cleaning? Thanks again!

These are cast hot dipped galvanized washers.
The larger one looks appropriate for your size vise, the hole sizing looks good, with out drilling and kicking up a lot of toxic dust, maybe some JB Weld to close up the larger part of the hole.
No adversity at all here.
Good luck

Thanks! I’ve got it apart and going into the tank now. I’ll look around for some of those. I appreciate you putting that together.

Thank you RTM. Very helpful
Hello, I have a Athol Machine co. Vise no 728 with a swivel jaw and weights 30 pounds. I’m missing the bottom plate which I would guess would swivel also. The jaws are 3 1/2 inches wide. I need help finding information on this 728, been searching for a while with no results at all. Seems like 728 doesn’t exist. The only other clue I have is on the ball of the handle is stamped 1911. I will attach some pictures, it’s been well used in its life. Just wanted to know more about it before I tried cleaning it up. Thanks for looking.

I’m sorry I only put up 4 images, of my vise. It somehow added all the previous images from the other persons.
