One of my coworkers in our machine shop at work offered me a table saw. He said it was an Atlas 8" and that he would get me some pictures. After seeing them and talking more about it I said I'd take it. I didn't haggle with him on his $100 asking price.

I have been looking for a better table saw as right now I have been borrowing my BIL's Ryobi which I am grateful to him for, but it leaves much to be desired in a table saw.

This is not my saw but this is what it looks like.

It is a 8" blade Model 3020, it came with 3 cast iron wing extensions, the fence, table insert, a GE 1.5HP dual voltage motor, the original blade guard/riving knife as well as a steel cabinet/stand. The stand looks maybe homemade, but it is probably 12 gauge steel and quite well made.

The saw can cut 18-1/2" to the right of the blade which is a lot better than barely 10" on the Ryobi. And it still can cut 2-3/8" deep even with an 8" blade.

The table is rusty but not pitted, the stand is the most rusty part but is still functional. The blade tilts and locks and raises and lowers quite smoothly. The gear for fine adjustment mechanism on the fence looks to be chewed up so I will see about fixing it or just live without.

My plan is to clean up the saw, make sure it is all okay and get the blade, fence and miter slots all aligned well. I want to clean up and paint the stand and wire it all up nicely. I also want to make or buy some kind of rolling cart to go underneath so It can be rolled outside or out of the way in the garage.

So do any of you guys out there have a similar saw? How do you like it?

Yeah I've never used one either but they seem to be well regarded and I can tell it is well made. I'm sure its similar to the Craftsman rebranded ones if Atlas was not the company who made them.

I have not gotten a chance to work on it unfortunately. But I thick first order of business is to start derusting the table. Now I'm not sure if I want to just clean it up with some gentle scotchbrite or evaporust it.

They are nice little saws, but can sadly be out performed by a modern plastic job site saw. The people that have them typically don't have them for performance. Coming from a guy that has a 8" craftsman stuck under the bench as he refuses to get rid of it.

You can get a manual and catalog info on the owwm.com site.

Typically you will see them listed for sale and people will state "they don't make them like this anymore", yes thankfully.
