I have been looking awhile for a decent benchtop DP at a decent price and
got this today. Im not sure if its the original handle or just missing knobs but still functions fine. Runs very nice, just need a new belt as this one is a bit dry. Also having the spindle guard is a bonus. Guy running sale was very nice and we talked for at least 45min. Got the dp for $30 and the extras in the picture for an extra $10. I don't have a lathe but you can never pass up good chucks.

I paid $50 for the spindle cover for my 40's Craftsman/Atlas after a 4 year search. So, I think I can safely say You **** for getting a free DP +extras with your $40 spindle cover.

Nice score! The press looks great, no arc of shame, original atlas motor, and it all seems complete. I think its a 42b and that is the orig handle, no knobs.

I'll give you $60 for it :)

I have a couple vids of mine on my youtube. I have/had a few of these presses.

Steve, I saw your video old vs new a few months back and liked it and knew a good one would come along eventually. Glad today was the day.
What size belt is on your Atlas DP?
Thanks

I put an extra pulley on my dpp so I can't give you the size for the single belt. There are calculators out there for belt sizes that should be fine for a dp.

$30...with a branded motor, spindle cover, and a light? Are you kidding me? Hell yeah, all day long!

Great deal all around. I like that lift table and tiny vise.

Scimonetti - Yes Atlas.

The Companion label was faded out around 1940 and replaced with the Dunlap label. So your DP would have been built between 1935 and 1940 (give or take). I haven't pegged down the start of the Companion label, but I'm more sure of the end of it's use. My WAG would be '36/'37. :dunno:

I know it's not the Craftsman, but hopefully I am picking up this Companion this weekend. They had bronze bushing but were still made by Atlas right?

Yes, those were made by Atlas. I have the same machine (I think...with the keyless chuck). Watch out for broken tabs which hold on the quill return spring cover (don't ask me how I know  ). I paid $25 for mine at an auction, but then paid $35 on eBay for a new spring cover.
