Atlas Copco Compressor

Anyone familiar with an Atlas Copco SF2 Oil free Compressor? Im trying to dig up some info about it.

Got any other info about it? I picked it up from work with a receiver tank from work cause they were getting rid of it(almost brand new) and cant use it cause i dont have a 3 phase setup.

Looking to find out some more info so I can sell it.

The compressor and the tank are separate units.

Thats a very nice unit. If it were mine, I'd buy a phase converter and use it. Unless you are hard up for cash.

It's only 3hp - it may be cheaper and easier to swap out the motor w/ a 1-phase rather than buying a phase converter.

Its a rotary screw compressor. It produces "oil free" air, its not an oil less compressor. These things run forever and are as quiet as a mouse. Atlas is a top of the line manufacturer. If you can get a phase converter I wouldn't be afraid of a 3hp unit, it will still kick out enough air for the average garage.

It is not a rotary screw, in fact it is a scroll unit. They are alot different than a screw. They have a small housing with a bunch of fingerlike ends that make contact with the inside of a housing and when rotated compress the air. I have installed a few of these commercially (powerx) units witch are the same as this essentially, some can be really loud others are really quiet. They are fine until you have to service them, at 10,000 hours you will need to basically rebuild the scroll with new tip seals and such witch is really expensive. The other downside for a home user is not running it enough ( I know that sounds funny ) sitting for long periods can cause issues with them as well they become less efficient over time due to this. How many hours are on it now? I see a lot of them get pulled in favor of complete new units over the repair costs.

MEDDLER1 is correct. It is a scroll unit. I was quick to jump the gun just by looking at the pic.

I have a similar Powerex scroll compressor. Nice and quiet, sounds more like a big fan running than a compressor. Works great, and mine has a bazillion hours on it - came out of a big commercial laboratory and ran three shifts a day.

ive had it for some time yet, just have no plans on using it.
