Father in Law, 87 and 12 hours away has had a lift for his new garage since last year. I finally told him I would come up and get it put together. Wife and I went up Monday and worked two days to get it put together.

While it goes up, it only comes down 10 inches or so and settles, as if it does not have enough weight to do so. (No car on it).

We think it is put together correctly, the directions are not very detailed and they leave a lot out.

Ideas? For the next trip up. Two calls to tech support on Tuesday went unanswered and no option to leave a voice mail.

It is within it's 1/2 level and plumb and the ladder safety locks are releasing.

thanks in advance

It’s not a matter of weight. I occasionally had release issues. Had to do with the safety lock. If I raised it back up 2 clicks, rattled the safety release lever a few times, held it down hard, and then pressed the hydraulic release, it would go down.

I had mine “hang” on a lock one time with my truck on it after it was installed.....took the shield off the hung side and had someone hold that lock as I lowered the truck.....seems the cable that was suppose to hold the lock open had stretched a bit......after some adjustment it’s been gold...

I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t come down without any weight on it....

what type of release does it have? do you have to hold the cable while you are lowering or is it one that you pull each release separately and it sets itself.

If you have to hold the handle, it may just be out of adjustment on one side, adjust a little slack in the leveling cables and see if you can determine which side is catching.

If you think it's just hanging up from friction try adding weight to the side that is hanging.

If the locks are released as you say then there must be some racking/binding that is holding it from coming down under it's own weight. Did you fully run it to the top and there is no air in the cylinder? Other than that you may have a faulty hydraulic pressure release valve. Also check the throttle valve, it a two-way to control fluid flow.

Take the covers off the crossrails and check the rods on the release mechanism. I noticed the heim joint can interfere with the runway bolts. I'm not impressed by the single point unlock mechanism.

Did you grease the posts and lube the cables? Mine was binding quite a bit before I got to grease it.

If I had a four post, I'd measure across the diagonals top and bottom, then use a laser to level the feet with shims.
