Hello-

Did some searching on the site and could not find an answer.....I'm renovating my attached garage and will be putting in a new 100a service panel. Main panel for my home is in the basement about 25' away from garage. I have a couple options for running my service to the new panel, from the existing panel.

A electrician friend suggested running 2 ga 4 wire from the panel through a small section of unfinished utility room, above a false ceiling in a downstairs bedroom, then through the studs into garage where it would meet the panel.

Another person suggested running the 2 ga wire through conduit from backside of house panel, outside to back of house attached to siding in pipe, then run across back of house, then enter garage at panel. He said to run metal, then the boxes are grounded out as well as the pipe.

I'm leaning more towards running it outside the house in pipe, but unsure which is best?

If running it in pipe, can I use PVC outside or should it be metal? Also do I need to run 2ga 4 wire still or something else?

Thanks !

Seems like the simplest would be the inside route suggested, use 2-2-2-4 aluminum, breaker at 90 amps. Eliminates the unsightly outside conduit

Thanks-Since this runs above false ceiling in a bedroom, should it be in pvc, steel or just the romex?

I would use #2 AL SER. It doesnt need to be in conduit as it has an outer jacket.

The panel in your garage will be a subpanel NOT a service panel. Your service panel is the main.

Make sure the neutral bar is isolated. U may need to buy a ground bar kit.
