Just finished building my shop. Next step to my dream is adding a 23ft x 40ft lean to on the end. The slope will go opposite the roof line.

Now how should I attach the 2x12s to the building or what suggestions do you guys have for rafters and such.

I plan on attaching building side at the second girt height. Around 12'6" the other end will land ontop of a 40ft high cube 8'6" height. 23 ft span between shop and shipping container. No snow load in Phoenix

Attached is photos.

Building mfg wanted to build another section of roof to match the existing and said they couldn't do it like I want off the end. b27298cda01962894eebb4e2b773298a.jpgaec87fb88c1d3fadfc68e38aa0617ebe.jpg236898cd87790c6dbb294b24a03d73a3.jpgb449b751d9ac66c217cbf4b25873767a.jpgc84d764ed72d14d824caa5a8a434dd94.jpg

I'm no opposed to adding columns outside the building either if needed. Could build it against the building but not actually attach it to it if that makes sense. Will be pouring concrete under lean to so could put in anchors for posts

If that's the case, you're essentially adding a second pre-engineered building against your existing structure. The only connection would be the endwall flashing.

PD has it right. The building isn’t designed for any load bearing on the end wall. The girt you are thinking about attaching to is only there to support the sheeting. Your best option is to build a free standing structure and flash it to the existing building.

We have attached aluminum awnings directly to the steel siding of metals buildings.
It is light weight and we never have snow loads here
