Attaching Slatwall to cinder block wall

I'll be hanging several sheets of slatwall in a few weeks to a cinder block wall and I wanted to know what the preferred method of attachment would be. Is it OK to just use Tapcon screws to mount the slatwall directly to the masonry wall or is there a better way? I'm also guessing it would be a good idea to put some form of moisture barrier between the wall and the slatwall.

thanks in advance.

Yup, get a sheet of plywood or something similar, rip it down to strips a couple inches wide. Glue them onto the back of the slat board (approx where you'll be attaching them to the wall) and tapcon away.

Toggle bolts into the cavity of the blocks is most dependable. Use care not to brak any blocks drilling the holes, but then you can attach meaty firing, two by four or whatever to use for a foundation. Hang the slat wall as usual.

Thanks for the replies. I'm closing on the house in one week. I'll try and get some pictures of the whole slatwall process so others can see.

We started on the slatwall install this afternoon, but had to cut it short when I got called into work unexpectedly. Hopefully we can finish the bulk of it tomorrow and I'll get some pictures up. So far it is going smoothly using 3/4" firing strips and 1/4" Tapcons.

Here are the pictures so far. These were the 3 full 4X8 sheets. We will be doing the partial pieces this weekend. Eventually I'm going to trim the top and bottom of the panels to make it look a little nicer, but all I need right now is "functional". That corner of the room is going to be where the race car sits 95% of the time so I just wanted the slatwall to help with storing things that I don't need all the time. That should clear up the more accessible shelving to things I need more often.
