Would love to see some other ideas for air compressor accessories. Here is my simple ones. A piece of plywood bolted to the top of tank compressor mount frame. Put some finish nails in the top edge to hang the air line accessories. Added some hooks and holes for other attachments. Picture attached.

Filter coming off the tank like that is next to useless. Air needs time to cool and condensate in order to remove the moisture. 50 feet of minimum 3/4" piping before the first filter is the standard.

It is not useless. First of all, it is both a filter, and a water separator. It is still serving it's filtering function. Second, coellescence still occurs, even if it's not as efficient as if the air was pre-cooled. Additionally, some secondary effects like the venturi effect at the inlet of the filter or within the filter mechanism will result in a temperature drop that can cause further condensation.

In short, I guarantee the OP is catching some water in that water trap, which means less water coming out the end of the hose. What you meant to say (which would have been less inflammatory as well as more accurate) is that it is less effective to have the water trap placed right after the compressor, compared to pre-cooling it.

OK about 2 degrees from useless then. If it hasn't condensated how can you catch it? If the air is hot which it is when coming out of the compressor when it's been cycling on and off then you are going to have condensate further down. In a humid environment with that setup after its been cycling on and off for several times you could hook your blow gun to the end of the hose and see the vapor coming out.

Air has to cool to close to ambient temperature for that type of filter to catch the vapor. With the filter that close it doesn't catch much. Doing what I do (Autobody) water is the bane of our existence in the Shop. If you don't have your filters setup right lots of problems occur.

Wasn't trying to be inflamatory. Really none of my business, I shouldn't have even commented.

My compressor rarely run, don't paint large items anymore. But when I did like I said - water was not a problem. The filter and water trap is something I stole from my last employer and is top quality:)
