I'm going to leave a standing offer here for the guys that swear by SK.

I have this wrench set:

and this wrench set:

Get me a comparable (even decent used) C-Pro set, Gearwrench, Snappy (although I'm sure nobody would do that), or even toptul set, and we'll trade. Any other decent U.S. brands open to trade also.

I don't think either set has been used more than 10 times.

Put your money where your mouth is.:lol_hitti

If I had equivelant C-Pro or Gearwrench sets I'd happily trade them.... I'm not an S-K lover, I just like them better than the above brands.

But I wouldn't trade my Snap-on tools for anything. Except maybe a winning lotto ticket... maybe :lol_hitti

Dang you would do this when I'm broke. I've been hunting for an excuse to give Mike some business.

His site shows some extensions and such I'd like to try out.

I *might* trade Gearwrench, but why would you trade C-pro? They are the same IIRC. Aren't SK and C-Pro line wrenches the same?

Well I have Snap on, Bonney, Cornwell and Matco line wrenches. But I still would had done it just for the spares.

But knowing me I'd like the Toptuls and want to keep them for me.

Why the **** would anyone want your crappy SK tools??????:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Seriously, for less than $200 and a trip to Sears, your problems could be solved.

I have some of those box ends. They are older, say SK Lectrolite on them. They seem ok. I always wanted some newer ones, but I don't have C-Mans to trade nor do I have money to buy right now.

Don't let hamburgler, Fedwrench, and olds88 hear you say that!!! :eek2:

The only S-K tool in my box is a single pair of pliers. The only Matco in my box is an inspection mirror... that when my Snap-on dealer saw he wanted to trade it for an identical one with Blue-Point branding.... he's a funny guy.

It's ok with me. He's the one using the tools and needs to use what he likes. I purge every once in awhile. I'm almost out of Cornwell except for my cart and main box. Tool selection is a personal issue. Everyone has their favorite and most hated brands just like everyone has an opinion about something. That's the power of perception. One person's favorite is another's worst nightmare. Tool choices also evolve when refinements and demand changes. I like SK because when I was a kid, they were available in most of the parts stores I frequented reminding me of days gone by and later they were widely used by the Army. However, I have never cared for their combination wrenches because they feel fat around the beam of the boxed end kind of like a fat woman but then, other people might like that.

I have some of the old kobalt flare wrenches made by williams. Has nothing to do with the thread, but I think they are pretty good quality.

You know what? How about trading the flare nut set for these (except for the long 17mm):
f39a_1.JPG

Snap-on, usable condition, but not too pretty.
An eBay buy I'm not thrilled with. They're all metric except for 1, don't remember which, they're at work.

What sizes are they?

The auction said 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15... but there was an SAE mixed in there... I think it was a 3/8, the seller might have mistaken it for an 8mm because the size on the wrench is dirty or worn, I haven't cleaned them yet. (98% of the time I only really use metric... not that familiar with SAE, the most I reach for SAE sockets is for hose clamps, flare nuts, and for installing the fittings on air tools.)

They're at work, I'll look at them tommorrow and let you know.

Sorry- I already have a set of SK SAE line wrenches and I am not interested in trading my Indestro long offset box wrenches. They are just too cool to part with.

I have wondered if SK even still makes those double box wrenches or if they just have a large stock of old ones. They have made very nice short fully polished offset box wrenches for years but they have never had the long ones in a polished finish or in metric.

I have a lot of the old S-K made Craftsman Pro combination wrenches. They are exactly the same as the SK long pattern wrenches. They seem to turn bolts just like my other brands of wrenches. The fat *** thing is mostly an optical illusion due to the way they start thin and flare out at the end. I admit it is not the most pleasing aesthetic on the shorter regular length wrenches but it never bothered me on the long pattern or stubby sizes.

As far as being an SK lover is concerned:

I really do love the SK ratchets. They just work great and have never let me down.

The SK wrenches I own have been great too. I have the flare nut wrenches, short offsets, long combination and stubbies. (some of them badged Craftsman)

The sockets are OK but nothing special. The only one I have ever broken was a really old one with the Charlie Brown cross hatching on it. The same bolt also cracked a Westline and a Mac socket before the torch took care of it. I can see why nissan_crawler does not like the deep sockets although the only time I have seen a stud not fit through past the broaching was with header nuts that were a non-standard undersized hex size for the stud. That "necked down" style socket is actually kind of nice for muffler clamps because the soft nuts don't get stuck down deep in the socket. They **** in tight places though because it forces the ratchet back as you loosen the nut/bolt.

I really like my new SK ratcheting screwdriver although one of the shafts that came in the set is a little tight. The driver handle itself is superb though.

I only have a couple of the regular screwdrivers and none of them are Phillips so I really can't judge those. I did break the tip off of a big SK screwdriver but I was using as a pry bar at the time.

I never tried the hammers, punches, or pliers. They always seemed overpriced and most likely sourced from other tool companies as an attempt to offer a full line of tools.

Here is a picture of a couple of the old SK made Craftsman wrenches next to a couple of Snap-on wrenches so folks can see the "fat ends"

I want to add, there is more to it then just perception. For me, it is also about being able to get something warrantied. I have at least two local places I can get SK warrantied, but MOST of my SK stuff, doesn't get used. It was my grandfathers stuff and it stays in the box, unless I really need whatever.
The one item of SK that I have, that gets used pretty regularly, is the 36" prybar, that I won off of Ebay a few years ago, for $25 delivered.
I like what I have, but it is old stuff, as far as I know, with the exception of the prybar, nothing past 1960.

Well, I don't have any of the things you asked for in trade, but I probably wouldn't trade anyway. I say this not because I don't like SK wrenches, but because I think they are good but only on par with Craftsman and Gearwrench. In other words, I would be trading an apple for an apple so it wouldn't make much sense. Just my take on it.

Interesting offer, although I already have the line wrenches. All the other non SK wrenches I have such as the Armstrong, Snap-on I still use.
Just for giggles what would be your asking price vs. a trade in the double box ends.

Who the hell wants SAE wrenches these days?? =]

Me, however I already have what I need. A lot of farm equipment still uses SAE instead of metric and when I work on my fathers equipment metric is hardly used.

On my personal vehicle, I have to use a mix of SAE and Metric. 3/4 for the lug nuts, yet 15 mm for the oil drain plug, etc.
