Prefer largest opening 30" Alum or steel would be preferred but wood is ok if sturdier.

Joists are 31.5" apart, and ceilings are 10'. Figure since i have the space id do 30" unless there were reasons to avoid. I believe I have the room for the non-folding units, but may be outta budget. I've had to deal with the step to make up for ladder shortfall at prev home, hoped to avoid this... Last variable I was hoping was to have it in a week possibly

Was leaning towards this unit, steel, insulated : FAKRO LMS 66869

This knocks $100 off and 50lbs less capacity, wood : FAKRO 66809

This one is likley not insulated, but could do the cap in the attic if a better ladder : Louisville L305P

Open to any others that are proven, ie. budget bressler or other etc. thanks!

Re: Best Attic pull-down ladder under $500 (30"W & 10' Ceiling)

1 week timeline isn't crucial, but would be better... If there is a way superior unit id be open to delay.

Figured it would go in one of these spots in the lower right corner, as this is shop space and would typically not be blocked. Figured most towards the wall to waste least amount of space. The green joists have been notched for the lift, so a non folding ladder likely would not work in those spots.

For attic flooring, planned to run 2x4 perpendicular to the joists, and 3/4 plywood atop that. Also brace from the cross joists to the roof rafters. No plans for heavy storage up there, but likely a lot of lighter weight parts etc

I'm using what looks like the 66809 model. Bought it at Menards. I'm about 210 and it's plenty sturdy IMO. I have the 22.5" model so it is a bit tight.
But from the looks of your plan, you're not using floor trusses, and your load capacity upstairs is a big question mark. You're not using joists but rather cross ties for support and adding additional weight of 2x4's and 3/4 ply will make our very capable forum engineers squirm.
Might want to think about this a little more before purchase.

I went with a 25" Werner aluminum and I like it. I didn't see the Fakro in person until after and the wider entry is nice but the insulation is nothing to write home about. It's not much and it's still going to let heat pass through with ease. If you really want to slow the transfer down, there are better options for insulating it after it's installed. That said, to me, it's the wider opening being the best selling point over the competition. The extra width would be nice but being prevented from carrying big items is a plus, in my book. I've carried my table saw up and down a couple times and that *****! I'm glad I can't get bigger/bulkier items into the attic.
