Attic Space

My attic in our old beach house is an open space with beds. The attic has no insulation. The attic is used maybe 6 times a year for overflow guests. I presently have a window unit. Due to the salt air, the window unit only last about 5 years. It is time to replace the window unit. Would a mini-split unit work in this space? Temperatures range up to 100 degree when the AC is not on. What are your thoughts on a mini-split unit for this space?

The condenser will still see salt water air. Sure, a minisplit is a great candidate for your needs. Will it last longer than a window unit in salty environments? Probably not any longer than the window unit. Who’s to say until you try. I’d try a mr cool diy with precharged lineset. Close to plug and play.

How large (BTU) is the unit ?

Are you sure it's the salt .....?

Do you have another unit in the house that lasts longer?

It may be that the mist up-high is indeed getting the unit ..... a mini split will have the condenser at the ground and more protected. I was mine off and hit it with car wash/ wax.

Mini splits are nicer and quiet --- it's going to be more $$. Depends on who is up there ... a window unit for a bunch of kids camping out may be OK ...... if it's a family ..may want something nicer if possible

Attic nooks are the coolest for sleeping, whether they are dark corners or snaptube vidmate have a window overhead – place a mattress and bedding on the floor and here you have a bed. Add some moody lights and a couple of pillows to create a perfect retreat. I love the attic window nooks made for sleeping, it can be a floor or even a window bed; open the windows and you’ll feel like sleeping outdoors.
