Attic Truss Storage

I need some ideas for creating storage space on sides of my attic between the trusses. I was thinking of making a shelf about 1-2' off the floor.

Does anyone have pics of what they have done or any other ideas?

Thanks

Can't find them on the Net, but I used an all in one 3 shelf bracket. Looks like a double Z, one Z one top of the other. I'd use a light weight backing like paneling to save on weight.

Depending on the intent of the space- Are there plans to finish it? Or is it going to be strictly storage?

In the older craftsman and victorian homes, when the attic was finished the floor space would be so limited for furniture that they would build into the kneewall drawer banks and cabinets (attached)freeing up valuable floor space.
Depending on the spacing of the trusses you maybe able to buy standard cabinets (one drawer/cabinet) that would go between the trusses.

Strictly storage and a room the boys can go have a smoke in the winter time.

I will probably end up running a 2x4s on the inside of the vertical truss and another one further back. Pop in a cross brace (to form an I) and just lay OSB overtop to create a bench/shelf.

I built boxes out of OSB and glued/stapled them together. I then put a 1x3 nailed on each side of the opening between the trusses. Slip the OSB box in on top of the 1x3's.

Each OSB box also has some 2" wide OSB nailed inside to act as shelf supports. I then cut some 3/4" OSB to be shelves. I can add or remove shelves as needed.

I then put OSB on the side walls in the attic.

Seems to work well, supports a lot of weight. I made 16 of the boxes for my 48' long shop. 8 boxes on each side.

Considering there is no floor there yet, I will just continue the floor all the way through and worry about shelving once I actually need them.

Thanks for ideas though!

Basically what I was going to suggest but I was going to say just frame in shelves. Hansen's ideas may be better as you could build the box, then slide it rather than work between the rafters.

If that picture is your attic, couldn't you just stand up some cheap shelving. Take it apart to get it up there. You have a straight vertical pony wall to put it up against. Wouldn't take up much room on the floor, easy, cheap.
