Older house; no insulation, 10" overhang with no soffit vents, 2 small windows at each end of house. About 4 roof vents (8" x 8") bought R30 batts for between ceiling joist. I still worry about air flow not having soffets vents!! Any suggestions ??
TIA

I had a similar problem (no soffit vents). I cut vents into the soffit using a sabre saw and aluminum vent covers available at HD. Cut them in between every third or fourth rafter. Some years later I had aluminum soffit and fascia installed with a continuous vent. You want to get some air flowing up there.

have you considered a thermostatically controlled fan/backdraft damper?
what kind of climate region are you located in?

Grainger has a couple of packages

is it rude of me to ask a similar question in this same thread (i.e. am I hijacking the thread?) If so, let me know and I'll paste this out to a new thread.

My old farm house has walk up attic with windows on both gable ends.. sounds similar to what was described in first post. We have brand new roof with soffit and ridge vent. Roof is insulated with an air cavity to allow air to travel from soffit to ridge. We have the walk up attic finished as a play room and a guest room.

But it's still piping hot in the summer even with the AC vents in there. Best bet to get some of that excess heat pulled out of there? Or do I need to rip out interior ceiling finish to put in different/better/reflective? insulation?
