ATV Winch Contactor

Howdy, while not totally related to garages, I have a problem and looking for input. Put an extreme winch in my ATV. Probably should have sprung for the warn but went with the cheapie. The winch is good the contactor is bad . Been through 2 so far with the same small wire from one of the coils breaking off the small printed circuit board. Very difficult to solder back on. Any one know of a good winch contactor that will not have this issue. (Many reports on the web of folks with similar experience.) Thanks to all who reply.

Can you post a picture of it? I replaced my winch contactor, I used a glow plug relay for a 97 Ford F250 Diesel (Used to have one) a Napa GPR109. Here is a link for $20.

I think it is rated at about 100 amps

Thanks for the replies. The diesel glow plug relay would work for one direction. Two would be needed for spooling in and out. The ones in Summit are exactly what I need. Much more then the cheepies I got. I will get one of them.

ditch the circuit board and direct wire up a pair of relays to a rocker switch.

I have a switch mounted on my handlebar. Not sure of the brand of my winch, someone gave it to me many years ago.
I will check to see what I have setup on mine, like I said, someone gave me the winch 15 or so years ago, I think I bought the handlebar switch, I have a GPR109 on there for something, I will check.

Contrary to some of the other advice here, I'm going to recommend sticking with something solid state. Winch contactors are one application where a SSR really shines.

x2 on staying with a SSR contactor. I've replaced all of the solenoids in my three Warn 8274s with solid state relays.
