I am thinking about going to a local auction to check out a 40 gallon air compressor and an older drill press and was wondering what they were worth and if they were worth the time.

Sanborn 40gal Commercial. I have not been able to find any information on this model. Mostly have come up with results for the 60 and 80 gal models. I currently have a small older 8 gallon CH air compressor. I am just wanting something for light duty work, air nailer, impact, and other auto air tools.

Duro floor type drill press. Just looking for a drill press for average use and would like a floor model. It looks like an W3080 floor model. Link

Any thoughts on these two items?

The press looks like it has the middle pulley set in it, which would be used to slow it down so you could drill metal. Nice feature.

I am not specifically familiar with either one but I did notice the drill press appears to have what Craftsman called a 'slow speed adapter' there above the column. The adapter made this press suitable for wood or metal work. I don't know if that was standard for Duro or an upgrade. Prices are a regional thing, but I wouldn't expect to pay more than $100 for the drill press here in SoCal. Certainly no more than $150 if I really wanted it. I paid $50 for each of mine. One is a Craftsman floor model and the other a Craftsman Bench press. Both were in similar condition.

EDIT - SweetD beat me to it . . . Glad he saw the same thing. One concern I would have is the dirty base. It appears this has been used to drill a fair amount of metal so the bearings could be worn. They aren't likely to be really expensive but keep that in mind as you formulate a price.

Cool, I would like to be able to use the drill press for both metal and wood, so that is good to know.

I have a similar vintage 80 gallon sanborn, think it is a pretty good compressor. Mine I paid $100 but i had to put on a new switch, regulator, tank gauge, etc. That one looks complete if it works I'd give $150 for it tops.

$175-$200 for both absolute tops for me, if I had a immediate need for them. Would be better around $100 for both. Both are decent at what they do, but not the biggest or the best by a long shot.
