Auction find. Do you think it’s an anodizer?

I’m kind of puzzled at what this may be. It was in a box lot auction I paid $20 for. I was thinking anodizer or chemical etching? Maybe for plating? Heck, I dunno. Thanks for any help fellas!

I'm guessing it's just a variac inside that box. Plug it in and probe the receptacles with a DVM, while rotating the knob. Should go from 0 to 120V.

Regarding the "Phase Checker"? You got me.

On second thought - took another look at the pictures; how does power get into it?

You might give us a picture of the innards.

Looks like some theatrical lighting equipment I built once, 2 outlets are dimmed, 2 are simple switched... Not sure either about the phase checker, unless it's to make sure your speakers are phased right (might have diodes to silence one if it's backwards)??
