One day (5ish years probably) I will builda 30x50x14 shop, and I plan to heat it with propane. A local auction company has these two natural gas heaters for sale; can anyone tell anything about them? Worth it if they go cheap enough, or are they likely old and inefficient? I can provide more pictures if necessary.

they are antiques. converting them to propane from natural gas will probably require new gas valves and new or re sized orifices . and who knows the condition they are in. looks like cast heat exchanger, may be cracked , who knows?
I tried that many years ago, got 2 nat gas heaters out of a job for free, converted them to propane , fooled with them for hours and in the end it was determined the cast burners had rusted too much, causing too large a flame and they would "POP" out every so often. it was a learning experience.

Are you OK with ventless? We've used 20k and 30k BTU "ventless" propane units to suppliment electrical heat in the shop when it's really cold. They work great. The only concern is condensation - if that's an issue where you are due to the "ventless" nature... But the propane heaters themselves aren't very expensive.

Those are probably 50 yrs old as others have said. I would rather have a tube heater and you have enough ceiling for it.

I guess they'll sell anything to a willing buyer. A pile of manure will keep you warmer and safer than those units. Lol!
