I finally got one.
$51.00 and a 200 mile round trip.

I have been out bid a number of times on one of these.
It is a data card file.
Usually called “IBM cards,” but this one if from their one time competitor Remington Rand.
11 drawers, each drawer has 2 removable trays.
The drawers are fully extendable so you can reach the very back of the tray for removal.
Those removable trays are the kicker.
Lots of room and I can bring the tray to the work if I have to.

It is going to replace my Kennedy tool boxes.
They are great boxes but the main one is a machinist box and those little drawers just didn’t fit what I need to put in them.
So they go to Craig’s list.
(If any one is interested PM me. They are a 526, a MC28, and a 5150.
I want half the new cost.)

Only $51 for that thing? That's a great deal.

A long drive, but you gotta do what you gotta do, right?

I bought one of the card files like yours 20 years ago for $30 at a yard sale. I brought it home , cleaned it up , and painted each drawer front a different color. It looks real pretty. and I store my hardware in it Copper and brass ftgs , screws metric hdwr, etc.....

I am pretty happy with it.

I had to spend a day cutting up old paneling to make bottoms for the trays since they have a slot down the middle like the old library card files did.
Painted them all white for good contrast while digging around for a wrench.

It is kind of big and I had to move thing around to make room for it, but the flip side of that coin is that is kind of big and I have room to spread my stuff around so I am not always looking under something for what I want.

Great deal. I got a card (index size, two rows wide in each drawer) file last year at an auction for about 65. Fantastic, drill bits, taps and dies, measuring tools and one drawer for the firstaid supplies. WIsh I coudl find another one.

We had an office full of those when we were using micro film apature cards for our drawings. I wonder what happened to them when the company went totally computerized after I retired. I guess I really can't see them trying to put close to 100,000 hand drawn drawings on a computer but with today's tech who knows.
