My other post was too long, so here is the second half of the auction story:

Several guys kept shaking their heads when I outbid them for trays of tools. But there were little surprises in some trays...like this little guy.

Close up image. Some folks won't understand, but to gun collectors, outdoorsmen, and people who like EARLY US tools and hardware, Winchester is a big name. Cool, huh?

The above photo shows one of the more interesting boxes in this auction. The old guy whose estate this was, must have enjoyed taking adjustable wrenches apart, and repairing or restoring them? There were lots of good, unworn parts in the box, and I decided that, if it went cheaply, I would buy it. But then the auctioneer threw in that set of Indestro impact sockets you see, and the four Bonney brand ratching gas-valve wrenches. I figured it would now go too high. I ended up paying $27.50, which was the most I paid for anything all day. This one may have been too high, but the Indestro impacts are 1/2" drive, going from 7/16" to 1", so that may help. And I hope the Bonney tools are good too?

Craftsman sabre saw, for $2. It works, but plastic handle cracked, and "repaired" with black tape. Probably ready for dumpster?

Last item I bought was a gas tank for an old Whizzer motorcycle/bicycle. Anyone ever heard of Whizzer? The old car guys like them.

The tank cost me $10. I think I'll be able to get a return on that.

At the end of the day, I had spent right at $200, minus some antique dolls I bought for my wife. So, how do you think I did, GJ folks?

I just finally found my pay-off receipt for the day. Total I spent was $190.50, and that included the vintage dolls for my wife.

My dad has that same saber saw, but not cracked. They're GOOD saws.
If nothing else, post it up here or on ebay for parts.

Below is a closer-up photo of the Bonney gas valve ratcheting wrenches. There are four progressive sizes. They are indeed a series of sizes that would make it LIKELY that one of them is 5/16" in size. Probably that third one from the top.

I'll look them over when I get home tonight, and give you a better answer.

Do you need a photo of the other side of these, to see the hex fitting on the smaller end at right?

While it's possible that this wrench was intended for use on a firearm, it is just as likely made for tappets, or etc.

At one time, Winchester made a full line of hardware-related items. I have owned a Winchester monkey wrench (similar to pipe wrench, but with flat smooth jaws), flashlight, shears, oiler, and several other items. And today I still have some old Winchester fishing lures, a fishing reel, and a few other miscellaneous items.

This wrench is quite thin, and is one-ended. So it may very well be a tappet wrench, or an "engineer's wrench", intended for use on a lathe or other machine tool.

There are some pretty aggressive Winchester collectors out there. Let's hope two of them REALLY want this wrench!

I'll put it on eBay when I return next week from the 127 yard sale. I am leaving for that multi-state event tomorrow afternoon.

Sure, I would be glad to help. But keep in mind that there are obviously a LOT of variations in these tool parts (color, "thread" size, etc). I got several screws, several pins, LOTS of jaws, and only two little springs. And I have some disassembled wrenches which came with the pile, so maybe I may need to keep some of it?

On the other hand, I may decide to sell all the "crescent" wrench parts, and any partially-disassemble wrenches. What would you recommend?

Hey, there were lots of good USA-made adjustable wrenches in the last few "hauls" I got. Maybe I will have the same model/size, and can find your parts that way?

I just went outside and checked with a dial caliper. One of those Bonney gas valve wrenches is indeed 5/16".

Wanna buy the set? I have no need 4 them.

I leave tomorrow afternoon for that 127 Yard Sale. So if I don't connect with you before I leave, I'll be gone til Sunday evening.

I really only have need for the 5/16. Its for the gas valve on the log lighter on my fireplace. The clearance for the butterfly key is a bit tight between the valve and the hearth. Im building it myself and my calculations didn't work out as I thought. Regardless, I think it would be cool to store it up on the mantle when not in use.
