So I have a bunch of these types of bits and was wondering if I could cut the ends off and use them in regular drills?

If you remove the threaded center barb it is known as a barefoot auger.

"A Barefoot Auger is used to drill deep holes through end-grain. The Barefooting process involves removing the self-feeding screw tip and changing the angle of the cutting edge so that it more efficiently cuts without the screw tip. Barefoot Augers Maintain maximum chip clearance. In order to use a Barefoot auger you will need to make a starter hole the same diameter as the auger itself."

Sell them-especially if you have a full set. There are people out there that still use them. If you must cut off the wedge end, you can stick them in a drill and file the threaded end to a point. But Irwin and Milwaukee still sell auger bits for use in drills.

If they had screw tips, Cut them. I buy them all the time for about a buck a piece, new, cut the ends, and use them in a cordless drill. Auger bits are the best, for wood. I disagree with most of the prior posts.

Pyramid style ends,? you mean no screw to draw them in? just a point. If so , I think you'll find those almost worthless...

I would look into them, see if their worth anything. I've seen vintage bit sets for sale at garage sales that cost hundreds more online. Cutting off the tip would ruin a vintage tool, but if they're cheap, it might be a cool project.

A Brace and Bit drill? The hand drill - Dude, just cut it off with bolt cutters or a saw.. then stick it in a cordless drill. This is assuming you don’t give a **** what you do to them.

But yes - you can do that. They will still work. Ive done it years ago when i first started my career, and guys were still using those hand drills on back yard poles to drill holes..

Guy with 15 years in at the time (i was still new) said - i bet i can drill it faster than you. I said ok go ahead. He drilled his pole by hand, came down, handed the thing off to me.. i said ok hold on.. went and got his cordless drill, used his bolt cutters and cut the end off, drilled my pole with the cordless drill.. i was accused of cheating..

When i went to line school for training, they made all of us step an entire pole on gaffs using that hand drill.. i swore never again.

I meant the chuck end had a pyramid shape not the business end.
