Sadly the old local garage, general repairer, and petrol station are becoming a thing of the past. Here are a few photos of places in Western Victoria, Australia.I will add more during my travels.

Welcome to the GJ.
You are right these places are rapidly disappearing, in fact I saw an old Total servo that had stood for many years, near where I live, demolished recently no pictures sadly.
I like your idea on starting a thread like this that captures our past.
Cheers

Sad to see, but at least there is a photographic record now. Same thing happening in this country. One of our MB club members took a lot of photos of closed garages and businesses along the old Route 66 on one of our adventures. He could make a book from them. WAY too many. :(

Is it just the camera angle or the *** end of that truck in the first picture being held up with 55 gallon drums?

I don't think its the camera angle at all :) you are right they are drums and are called 44 gallon drums out here.
It may not meet the heath and safety requirements now a days, call it "improvisation aussie style" if you like.

That is right 1/2 cup. This garage only has 2 bays. Far right had a pit. Suppose they knew the diff would be out for a while. So it was easy to leave it out on the street.Yeah things never met with the OH&S standards in those days but the did get a lot of things fixed all the same.
