What has been happening is worthy of talking over a beer, and certainly not for an open forum, as I am sure deformation laws would be used against me.
That part is all done with and we are back to selling our hose and moving to Canberra. Still looking in your area Terrick, couple of love places up for sale at the moment ;)

Thanks Terrick, and this is why I love this forum and the rural Australia people. I have rummaged up those places that I think will work (have a large shed or area for one). The next step is getting the wife to have a look at the short list. ;)

Terrick We put an offer on a place near Sutton. I'll wait and see as we put a lot of clauses on it. Thanks for the offer with the septic and water, but I threw that it to the equation. Not sue it will get accepted. but we will see. That is interesting about that place, we thought it was pretty over price at the $1.2 so I think that is not too bad of a deal for the vendor.
The good news about this place is there is not shed, but the wife loves the house. And said, "you can build want eery shed you like here". I think that is pre-approval, well I am going to take it as such.

That's great, If you need anything just yell out. Still happy to do an inspection for you, just to make sure they are telling you the truth.
BTW, the place at the beginning of my street went last week for $1.105 to a fella from the army and he drives a Dodge 4x4. haven't met them yet as they are getting things done before they move in.
Shoot me a text if you want!

It has been a while since I have logged on. But I have been watching. I have been having a bit of a challenging time with moving the family to the country life, and changing jobs. I left the full time navy after 27yrs service for the commercial world. I have just started to come out the otherside feeling like I have a moment to breath.
Ok so to recap as a part of the work life balance, we made a tree change to the Canberra Australia region. Originally looking down Royalla way with Terrick, but settled up north on 50 acres of pasture, with a house and a small 9mx12m shed.

So the land was a subdivision which has meant a bit of fence and plumbing works for the cows we are running, as such my efforts have been on doing that. It has meant that I have had an ongoing approval to get a lot of machinery as a part of the work around our little farm. However, the drought that has been going now for 3years means that the spring feeding the dam (water for livestock) and our feed is almost gone. I am not whining as we still have a lot of feed in our pastures compared to the area, and thankfully we don’t rely upon it for a living unlike some poor farmers.

I’ll be sure to keep everyone up to date with my farming adventures. I am not completely ignorant to farming ways, as myself and my wife came from farming families. However that was almost 30yrs ago now. So it has/will be quite the adventure. The place is lovely even though we are in drought and the pastures are actually very dry and barren. We are running a few cattle at the moment, but just going to wait out the drought. I am inclined to make a bit of show so I am sure my neighbours on the hills will sit back on their front porches and watch a show of amateur accidents.

So what about the garage/shed. Well the place came with a 9x12m shed as shown. I quickly filled it once we moved in and need to work on storage of stuff immediately on arrival. As you can be see it is great to have a shed of this size but it filled quick.

Regardless, whilst a 9x12m shed is nice, but when you have this much land… well the shed should reflect. A bit of planning, and interpretative dancing with the council, the building of a 12mx24m shed can begin.

Whilst, I normally would develop a detailed plan for the shed, even CAD base the design, to ensure everything has it place and is perfectly position; this time I am doing it differently. This is my 4th shed/workshop, and after doing things differently every time I realise that all the planning in the world is always overtaken by my natural tendency to rearrange things, 3 or 4 times once I put it in position. So this time I have plan that I am starting with and will adjust to reflect. This resulted in me just putting the barn doors in at the front.

These were to be the only access, but I have since put an PA door in on the side now. I have not installed any windows as yet, well at least not until I am sure I know what I am going to do. I will probably live to regret it as I loaded all my stuff from storage into the shed, and when I mean storage; I am talking 30yrs of stuff spread all over Australia due to various relocations with the Navy.

So the shed is now full, and it is time to get into it and sorting out where it all should go.

I have been drafting this up for a while but had been really busy with work, so I planned to write and submit this to the forum over Christmas. Things took a bit of a turn over the Christmas period herein Australia the fire season has been significant. Luckily we did not have any fires near us but it has been a real tinder box and with the drought it has meant there is just no moisture in the paddocks’ grasses.

Hey, looks like a great start. This region is very dry, we had a newbe slashing the other day on a Total Fire Ban. One of his neighbours quickly raced over and explained what happens when you hit a piece of rock with grass this dry. He went as white as a ghost in 30 seconds.
If you need any advice, just grab me.

So I started work on the front doors. Making them nice and heavy as I have hated the lightweight doors I have had on sheds previously. Quite a chore to put up.

I am using this compressed board for the front, and I am really disappointed with it. It was not supposed to fade (which it has), warp or crack. Well, the only thing it hasn’t done is crack. I have nothing but excuses from the manufacture, so I am not sure just yet what I will do. They do the job, and as the supplier noted “It is just a shed”, but I expected better especially for how much they cost per sheet…. And it pride in the product would be nice.

An old Navy Mate came around and asked if he could store this for him. An Aussie classic ute, the holden HQ. This has been converted to a mild LS 1 with auto. And with nothing over the rear axles it literally just breaks traction in any gear and road condition. It brings back many memories of my teenage years.

We have had a bit of rain, nothing more than a couple of mm.
The shed has taken a pause, I had a bit of a heart issue I went into heart failure from a AF. I am resting until they fix it in a couple of weeks, just one of those things as I am not a risk profile candidate.

If you need anything ...yell out!
The water is a good thing, but a bit slower would have been nice.
BTW, I thought you would be used to water...LOL

Yep sure brought back some training in regards to managing flooding water. Luckily everything dried out okay.

Crazy stuff. As I have a bit of a heart issue and can't let the heart rate get above 110. So this didn't help.

It looks like I need to focus on the grounds work around the shed as a priority.

Thanks for the offer Rick, neighbours all cam over an pitched in. Gotta love the community we have in Rural Australia.

How is your heart rate tonight after todays rain? I hope you got a channel dug to direct the water away from the shed. We got 50mm today here. All my tanks are full and the overflow pump is pushing it towards my neighbours dam.

Have you got someone local that can help with the drainage until you are on your feet properly?

Thankfully yes. Two of our nieghbours a civil works guys. They have been out already and the water is draining, but the proper fix is yet to come.

Feeling better each day at the moment. My heart wasn't in rhythm, and I had about 10% function, I am up to 60% a the moment. Just need to take it easy, which is not an easy thing for me.

 I know about being told to take it easy and then trying to get things done at the same time.

Spent a bit of time working on the House. Changed our hydronic heating over to be a combined wood and gas system. It was purely a gas heater, and we would burn through 250kg of gas a week. Got this old wood heater, and plumbed it in with a storage tank as a heat reservoir. I also plumbed in a pressure receiver to cater for expansion, as the system relies on having about 15-20psi head pressure.
It takes a bit longer to warm up the slab, but it is heaps better on the fuel load. Love the plumbing of the lines reminds me of my days on the navy steamships.
Makes life so much easier to do things like this when the shed is better organised......

Been working on the shed, while this whole COVID19 thing is locking us at home. Mind you I think this has been great for productivity on the shed. Cleaned up a bit started putting up internal walls.

Then I started to run the lines for the 15amp circuits I want.

Mind you its a body of work to put together

Also my dog had a bit of surgery and has the cone of shame on. never seen her look so sad all the time.

Glad to hear you are getting better, makes life a bit easier to deal with. The rain has been stupid around here too. I had backfilled the east end of our house and with all this rain we found something less than a leak...more of a moisture point, so had to dig up 600 down and 16m long to reseal the cold joint between the roof and back walls. Just waiting for the waterproof render to dry so I can coat it with bitumen seal.

Oh that would seriously ****. Hopefully able to be done by a machine rather than by hand.
