Hey guys been watching this site for years now and decided to post up my pride and joy.

So i'm a 27 year old Army Firefighter and bought a house almost a year ago now. Always wanted a shed as i love working on bikes and cars and have never had a garage.

Anyway, the new house came with a 6m x 6m steel titan garage. It was bare bones with no lights and one power point (to run the pump for the water tank.) It may be small but a 6m x 2.7m extension is planned for the rear later on. The water pump is housed in the shed but is only used for one garden tap on the back of the house.

So i picked up a bargain with some Tru Dec flooring off ebay for $300 and almost enough to cover the whole floor. (Most of the stuff in USA like racedeck etc wasnt available in Aust then)

Then it was time to build the main benches and some storage. The bench and shelving was built using seconds hardwood with every join bolted and bolted to the wall. The top is seconds ironbark in tongue and groove which is finished in clear laquer and trimmed in 20mm x 20mm aluminium angle on the edges (still have to instal this). All the other surfaces like doors, shelves etc are 14mm MDF because it was cheap. The bench was designed to be large enough to hold a motorcycle motor sideways when on a stand and the large cut out is for a 42" roll cab to sneak in. On top is some Treston electrical parts cabinets which was an ebay purchase for $20 each, so i grabbed 6 to use for bolts/nuts/hardware etc.

Overhead cabinets right now are just three kincrome wall cabinets bolted to the wall on some structural pine.

ELectrical was upgraded with its own subpanel, 4 double 10 amp power points and 2 single 15 amp power points. Lighting is restricted to 2 single fluro lights over the work bench and one single fluro in the centre of the shed. This needs to change soon.

So thats part 1. Part 2 will be updated soon but unfortunatly the weather is terrible and flooding and with my lack of lighting it makes it difficult to take photos.

Stay tuned.

Cheers,
Marc

Thanks mate, actually colour scheme is black framed and blue surfaces such as shelves etc. The shelves look all blue as they still have the masking tape on them.
Walls will be done with the bottom 1m in black then the rest in blue.
It will stand out a bit but both my bikes are getting painted black and blue so will suit the theme :)

I must say you have indeed turned it to a to beautiful place to work in. It was interesting to see the amount of the change you have brought to the place, would be even more interesting to see how it turns out to be in the end.

Red Leader: trust me it is budget :) Everything takes twice as long as i have to wait for things on ebay to come up cheap and building materials to come on sale. My wife drains my funds on doing work to the actual house, hence my poor toys arent on the road yet :(

Jinjaninja: Rains not that bad, i live in toowoomba so am quite used to rain and flooding lol. Lets just say i needed to put a snorkle on my ute so i could get to work some days lol

Widesheds: it will get there eventually, time is another luxury i dont get much of either so it may take a while.

5lima30: Yes, all the house gutters and the shed ones.

So next update. This is how my garage sits today. I have had 2 days off work due to getting wisdom teeth removed so it was perfect time to do some work out there (please excuse the mess, i have run out of space and need more shelving!)

Ok so next idea came after a few beers of course. Mentioned to a plumber mate that i was sick of having to walk inside with greasy hands etc to go to the toilet. So he said that if i give him a couple of cartons of beer then he will install and plumb a toilet and sink in for me off the water tank. So started framing the interior walls

Did a bit more work on the bench (still a lot more to go.) Installed the cheapest 32" LCD i could find ($120 from a supermarket) on a pivoting arm so it can be moved and seen anywhere (more on the AV system later.) Picked up my Maxim 42" roll cab and quickly filled that. Doors are made but need planing and painting properly. Bench frame needs one more coat of black to get rid of the outline of bog over bolts.

Looking over the other side shows my beefy shelving thats full already. My XXXX (local beer) esky table that was a prize at the pub. And something i knocked up on a lunch break at my second job (fixing service stations and petrol bowsers) is my media centre.
Consists of old office computer and stereo mounted inside a Mobil Round petrol bowser with the monitor mounted in the top instead of the counter head. This is linked to the TV at the workbench, has a wireless remote control to run it all, tv tuner card installed, all my service manuals, wireless internet, music and DIY videos installed. All links up with 4 speakers in each corner. Still need to finish polishing and mount the front and back panels and tidy up the Monitor mount but all up cost is $150 :)

So thats where it stands today. Priority will be the bathroom walls and tiling then the work bench. Once that is completed its time for the other side to get some love :)

Cheers,
Marc
