In Australia it seems we have a few different tool companies to america. In these pages I've been looking at it seems the only brands on sale in both america and australia are stahlwille and snap on.

So just wondering, are these brands of tools in America?

Sidchrome
Kinchrome
KC Tools
KC Pro am
Ampro
Genius
Teng Tools
Minimax
Gedore
SP tools
Stanley

Alot of american tool websites say that craftsman gear is good, but I'm not to sure, Id love to buy some of ebay USA and get them shipped to australia to see what they are like, (we dont have sears here btw)

GOOD DAY! Ampro and Stanley brands are sold in the US. Both are made in either China are Taiwan. Any of those tools made in Australia?

The craftsman pro line isn't bad and you can get great deals... Unfortunately you can't get them exchanged.

Sidchrome used to be made in Australia, bought out by stanley tools about 10 or more years back, now made in Taiwan:(

I have some Bahco, though from memory, they're Taiwan too, I'll have to check that.

Residentrocker, I have bought some Craftsman off ebay, as well as right here on this site. The general concensus according to most on this site is that like most things, the older stuff is better quality. I myself can't make that judgement, all I can say is that I'm happy with the few things that I have. Sure beats alot of the Asian tools on offer over here anyway. From my experience, of the Asian stuff, go for Taiwan over China or India, at least seems to have a bit better quality control.

Sidchrome- Have a couple pieces, seems like good stuff!
Kinchrome- Nope
KC Tools- Nope
KC Pro am- Nope
Ampro- Very Common, available at Advance auto, OK quality
Genius- Very common, seems to be SK knockoffs on a bunch, Low quality
Teng Tools- Heard of them
Minimax- Nope
Gedore- Good stuff, a lot of it from India
SP tools- Nope
Stanley- Econo line of Proto/Mac, Mostly Taiwan and China, sold at Walmart

What about repco, powerbuilt?

Never heard of Repco either. Powerbuilt seemed to be the top of the line for Alltrade. Mostly Taiwan with some Japan and US thrown in the mix. Was widely available at Checker/Shucks/Kragen/Murray's Auto parts until they went out of business and got bought by O'Reilly. Above average tools for where they were made I think.

I don't mind the REPCO branded pliers, feel good in the hand, used my side cutters every day for years in my trade, still look like new except for some scratches on the soft grp handles. Don't know about their other stuff though. Current catalogue looks good.

Yeah we have bahco in australia and it seems to be pretty good stuff, the adjustable wrenches and pry bars are exact same as snap on and half the price to which is awesome.
. Teng tools is over here but not very big, atm im considering bringing some craftsman pro and snap on from america into australia just for something a bit different.
Btw i think sidchrome may share some common items with proto.

In terms of quality brands in australia at my workplace it seems to be this

!: Snap on
2: Stahlwille
3: Genius
$: KC tools

its really weird how over in america is genius is regarded as pretty average but over here it is regarded as one of the best.
Also someone said ampro but over here its just average and they are getting rid of it from the country. I got a mad 3/4 tbar the other day for 10 bucks, most are around 40

All i know is the last lot of snap on stuff i bought off the Snap On truck where made in Taiwan. No ****** happy Jane. They were the adjustable head ratchet spanners.

Most of my other tools are Kincrome. Have always found them to be long lasting. Some of the Snap on stuff has not lasted more than 12 months. particularly there ratchets, i wont buy any more of them.

Yeah, I think someone should start up a tool company in there own country. Cooper tools makes tools in the USA and Australia. Even though they are relatively cheap I got a 5 dollar hacksaw and it was great! Also some other stuff like through tang chisels are good.!
