This question is directed mainly to autel users.

If I buy a used autel off ebay, will I be able to update it? Or do I need to pay for the updates?

Only........If you buy a subscription. It can also depend on where the unit originated........some sellers are not legit. Clone of a clone so to speak can be a update problem. My 802 was $100 after 1 year or two. I have not updated mine and it works on my vehicles. If I wanted to work on newer vehicle or had problems communicating a current update might fix those issues.

Thanks for that bit of info.

I see used units in ebay for $50-80 and new ones from ebay/other sites for $150.

I don't remember having to pay anything to update my AL619, but I'm pretty sure I had to set up an account and password to do it... which could make it tough to update a used one if a previous owner has done it already.

Even "NEW" have reported issues with updates and support highly dependent on where its purchased. Direct purchase and ship from "far off lands" can be a problem.

This is true. Buy from a US vendor with US tool and you're covered above qand beyond what's right. I bought from Autel offshore and have had almost zero support. Autel America covered my out of warranty unit with a new one.
