As some of you may know I recently purchased the Autel MaxiSys MY908/MS908.

So far I'm very impressed with it, but by no means am I a master at using this device yet.

So I figure I'll start this thread to update my progress and familiarity with the MaxiSys while trying to answer any questions anyone may have.

Anyone who already has this unit please feel free to chime in.

I'm going to post a demo and Q&A video on YouTube in the very near future.

G'day John
Ive got a 708 at work and I love it...
My kick off question would be where are the pcm calibration files held? Do you have to connect to a central server/ database? Do you pay a subscription etc?
Jonny...

Your talking about j-2534 ecu/tcm reflashing correct? If so those files are downloaded via internet through the manufacturers web site your are trying to reflash (nissan, ford,gm,etc). You can pay a fee for that one download or buy a download pack like ten downloads for a set price or a one month subscription or a one year subscription. All the manufacturers are different.

The 908 seems to have the european and asian support covered very well. That is an extra on competing units. The domestic support is dang near as good as the OE tools I've used.

I heard that Autel can get you the programing files for free through their server.

I'd also like to know about bidirectional ability... can you watch parameters while messing with stuff, or does the screen only show the control?

We have a Launch GDS at work, and while it has bidirectional controls, they **** for diagnosing more advanced issues. For example, I can change the commanded rail pressure on a Duramax, and I can watch the actual rail pressure, but I can't do both at once. Which makes it about impossible to diagnose a FPR issue, since you have to command different pressures and see that the actual pressure follows.

Does that scanner read things like manufacturers air bag resistance readings, and some of the other kinda stuff seems like most scanners overlook, on any domestic vehicles.

I too have recently purchased a Max908. So far I'm pretty impressed with it. I am looking into added a new TPMS tool. Scanning though it seems that the 908 has the ability to reset TPMS if you can enter the codes form the sensors. Does anyone know this? If that's the case I would think the Autel TPMS401 will read the info required to enter into the 908 and do a relearn. Any thoughts?

My shop has a Maxysis on hand that we use pretty often. I really like the tool. We also have a Bartec that we do most of our tpms work with. There was one car that I was doing a relearn on (forgive me, I can't remember what it was now) that would not communicate with the Bartec to save my life. In the end, I wound up using the Maxysis to enter relearn mode on the car. It had me activate each sensor in sequence, and captured the ID numbers automatically. Worked like a champ, although I have never needed to do it again.

Can you reprogram or initialize tcm's with this? I work at an indy transmission shop and we are always having to bring cars to the dealer when we replace the tcm or in other instances the valve body. some Nissans are a good examble where the tcm is integrated into the valve body and requires a dealer reprogram.

Remember, most manufacturers charge a fee to access the data for re-programming.

The max908 has the ability to re-flash. But requires additional equipment. I think the box that allows flashing cost around $1000. And you have to buy a per subscription from the manufacturer. It is used in combination with a lap top and the internet (provided by your shop). This is what I understand. Please correct me if I'm misinformed.

I've seen that video.. I just got a maxisys mini..According to the support Forum the mini does everything except program.

Anyway I was trying to do bidirectional on a 08 dodge nitro evap vent valve and i couldn't find it. Have you any experience with bidirectional on newer Chrysler evap systems?
