A long, long, time ago before Powerprobes were all the rage, a small tool company named Thexton had the 187 power on tester which I've always considered the grandfather of today's powerprobes so, who know if a powerprobe is proprietary or not. :dunno:

I do know Autel stuff is selling like hotcakes right now.

Not that it helps but I have the autel maxidas 708 scanner and its one of the best ive used...good customer service too..

We have the Autel scanner as well. I also have a Power Probe 3 that I have been using for MANY years. I have been far more impressed with the quality of the Power Probe than the Autel. If it was a choice between the two brands with a nearly identical item I would buy the PP brand. I do like the idea of the added features on the Autel brand though, I just haven't been so impressed with Autel's quality.
