For those that work in this field......do you use an interface pad when prepping a vehicle for paint ? The one I am thinking of is a 3M 05774. If so, is this a "tool" that you find is very helpful ?

I have a 4.5inch version on one DA, but I don't use it that much. Although I'm sure there's nothing wrong with it, I prefer the 6inch standard (no holes) stick-it pad. and use rolls of stick-it discs.

I would say it should depend on the vehicle. If it has real sharp creases in the body lines, the interface pad would help to keep the sanding using DA from cutting the sharpness of these creases. For concave recesses, it would help the paper conform to the body better. For real flat panels, no interface would help. So as you can see, some vehicles will have a mix of using the interface or not.
The interface pads come in real handy using the 3M trizact system for wet sanding (damp sanding with the trizact system) out your clearcoat. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the 3M Perfect-it compounds. Too much water in the compound, most of it gets slung from the pads. I use the compounds and pads by Presta

Thanks guys, I do very little body work.... just my own mostly. I have been thinking about changing over to the H&L system. When I go to buy the 6" DA pad, I was going to pick up the interface at the same time. I'm still using the stikit products and for the most part like them but I believe there are advantages with the H&L.

3m has two versions of the H&L, Hookit, and Hookit II, so to be on the safe side, be sure to get the one compatible with the Trizact sytem. (I think it's the Hookit??)

A word of advise, 3M has been phasing out the Hookit II all year, so if you purchase it, make sure you get a sweet deal on it!!! If you head to an unscrupulous jobber, they may set you up with II to get rid of old inventory and then you are stuck.
I would advise against though. Soon, nothing will be available.
Trizact is now available in both Hookit and Hookit II.
