Anyone know of a site that explains how these work exactly? Interested in purchasing one for my vehicles. Years range from 01-09. Any low budget good options??? Sick of paying to just get a code.... thanks

There is not much to really explain. The basic units just plug in and tell you the code(s) and have the ability to erase them. As you get into the more advanced units, they give you more information about the inner workings of the engine through the OBD system (graphs of O2 sensor readings, etc). The high end ones will even read ABS codes.

So, to the MECHANICS on the board - any recommendations as to a good reader to get? I've been seeing a lot about carMD lately. You get the code, then plug it in to your computer, which analyzes code, gives repair guidelines, then allows you to erase the code.

BUT - you only get to register a set # of vehciles (meant for the homeowner, not mechanic).
