auto darkening hood

I am in the market for an auto darkening hood. as always money is tight, but i dont want a piece of **** again. my HF one flashed me 4 times yesterday. i dont trust it any longer. the one i'm looking at is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KW1GY4I/?tag=atomicindus08-20anyone use this one or is there one better at that price range???? thanks

That's the one I have that was strongly recommended to me by my LWS. I paid about the same. I like it quite a bit, but to qualify I only have my previous HF to compare it to.
One thing to note about the grinding mode: it's difficult to see the small lighted symbols inside the helmet, so it's easy to forget you're in grinding mode. It won't injure you because you'll still have UV protection, but it's unpleasant for sure to start an arc that way.
I decided just to not use grinding mode for now, being new to welding I have lots of other things to focus on.

I purchased a Lincoln 3350 4c helmet about 3 months ago.

The first time I used it the only thing I could say was "WOW!" . I already had the 3350 without 4C for 2 years and it is a great helmet. I have cataracts and the old age close focus problems. I had a hard time seeing what I was doing. This new 4C just eliminates those problems. When you look at the Lincoln brochure photo of the old versus new it is accurate as to what you see. It's like going from black and white to high def color TV. If you can swing the extra price it is worth it. I love the new headgear it has also. At any rate Jackson is a good helmet. Your eyes are so important it is worth every penny extra that you pay for quality.

I have the same Miller as above. Bought it last year from Airgas. They had it on special for 79.00 bucks. It has worked flawlessly.

I have a Lincoln Viking 1840 which has worked well for me. I like having the adjustable external shade control. The quality is excellent.

I use a Hobart from TSC, works perfect and have had it for about 8 yrs. They were $49-$59 as the seem to go on and off sale very frequently.

These Save Phace helmets get a lot of good reviews. They're pretty cheap and Snap On sells them too. I will probably buy one eventually.

Personally I use a Miller auto lens in a Leather hood.

You'll find out what a leather hood is all about the first time a cheery runs down the front of your shirt, or in the hair on the top of your head, or on your first overhead weld
