Auto drain water separator

Hello,

I have a single inlet (no outlet) on the top auto drain water separator. It has a float in it that moves up and drains the water out. On top of the canister there is a valve that can be turned which would seem to let air out. What is the purpose of this valve! Thanks

Assume it is to de-presurize before you try to drop the metal bowl.

This, its just a bleed valve.
