Wal-Mart sells "AUTO Drive" Tools. Specifically, they had a simple OBD2 Code Reader.
Box labeled: "Made in China. Auto Drive is a registered trademark of Wal-Mart Stores."

I've never heard of this brand. Any have experience with these tools?

Thanks.

I got a bluetooth OBDII reader off amazon for $11. I used to diagnose a faulty O2 sensor and clear the code. Now I use it to monitor MPG, RPM, speed, coolant temp and MANY other values with the app Torque Lite on my android phone.

I tried to check it out but not on their website. I have top quality diagnosis tools to use at work but wanted something quick & cheap so I picked up a $15 no name one from amazon. I'm sure it is very similar. Mine isn't bad but it only gives you the code. You have to look up what that means. If I didn't have the resources & needed one I'd try to get one with manufacturers codes & abs. It's a slippery slope & you can end up spending a lot more than you planned but I think those 2 things are worth investing in.

Joined just to warn you. I purchased one of these pieces of junk from Walmart. It was specifically their Auto Drive OBD2/EOBD Code Reader, Model #XOB15091, UPC# 6 935514 000052. The first time I tried to use it, it began connecting to the car (the progress bar was moving), and then it suddenly froze with bizarre marks illuminated all over the screen. Turned off ignition and unplugged it, and it now no longer even tries to connect to any vehicle. Screen just illuminates.

I would avoid, and if in a pinch, certainly keep your receipt. You'll likely need it.

i've had similar experience... when it worked it was actually a very well featured device for the price point... but at some point it froze on one car and then refused to do anything but display garbled junk on the screen

so to sum up, looks like a unit that just gives you the codes, actually gives you the codes plus code description, does freeze frame data, IIRC there is an alternator test function, reliable as en engine block made of cheddar

Nah, this particular one only shows the code numbers (you have to look up the descriptions online) and then lets you clear them. Very very basic, craptastic code reader.

Just to be sure I didn't just get a bad apple, I bought another of the same one from my local Walmart and tried it on a brand new 2016 Malibu. Never would connect. Tried it on an older Mercury. Same deal. Will be returning it as well.

As reliable as an engine block made of cheddar? :eyecrazy: You definitely got that right! LOL!
