Hey Gang, I'm a home mechanic repairing ours, relatives' and some friends' vehicles and don't do it professionally for pay. I'm looking to replace my Innova 3140d scanner which died. what's a good replacement, Autel Maxidas 708? Maxisys 908? others or should I save up for a Snap On Verus?

Thanks

Take a look at an Autel Maxidiag elite MD802. Does all systems on most cars, not bidirectional. about $300.00

What are the actual bebefits if the bidirectional?

Depending on the vehicles age you can control a few or most of the functional components. For example your vehicle overheats when sitting, with bi-directional controls you can turn the cooling fan on and off without needing to get the vehicle up to temperature and waiting to see if the fan turns on. Helps immensely for testing. If you stop at brakes/suspension its worthless to you (unless you need the ABS actuation for brake bleeding) but if you plan on diagnosing electrical components on a lot of vehicles with questionable histories of repair it can be invaluable. Without bi-directional controls you're essentially limited to pulling codes, googling common faults, and shot gunning parts. Alternately you can get pretty creative with jumper wires and wiring diagrams but really not recommended.

I have an OBDLink MX Wi-Fi Scan Tool with the ScanXL Pro software on a laptop for my at-home stuff. Works pretty well, but it's not bidirectional, so if that's your thing look elsewhere. If I remember correctly it was about $250 for the scan tool & software.

BiDirectional scanners get pretty pricey, but you should be able to pick up an older one like a Snap-On MT2500 for $400 or less. I had one at the shop, but had to trade it in on a newer one to keep up with the newer cars. lol

Hi all. I have Autel Maxi Diag MD802 which I purchased many years ago. The scanner works great being able to see live data and clear codes until the update. The issue I'm having with scanner after doing an update last year I'm no longer able to view live data for engine and auto transmission. I have contacted the support and they have advised that there could be something wrong with the unit or try to go back to the original firmware version. when I updated the unit I forgot to backup the existing version. I have spoken to autel but they have checked and advised that they no longer have the older version and to try to find someone with older version then mine and get a copy of the software. Is there anyone that has this model with older software?

Check out the Autel DS808K......

I have an extra one of these scan tools. It's brand new, never been activated, still in the factory packaging. It has full bidirectional control and live data on all modules. They claim it has the same fuctionality as the 906.

I would make you a great deal on it but shipping to Hawaii is probably a fortune..... plus, it's probably better to do those transactions face-to-face, anyway.

I've been meaning to post an ad in the classified section here on GJ but I keep forgetting. If anyone else is interested let me know via PM.

EDIT: I now see this is an old bumped thread from 2016. Please disregard.

However, I DO have an extra DS808K for sale here in June of 2022 so that part of my post is still relevant. lol
