I will never go to an auction with a buyer's premium. 20% for online; 18% for at site with a 2% discount for cash or good check. I quit going to auctions years ago after I saw people bidding almost as much or more than you can buy new.

I differ here. I go to a lot of auctions and I value a well run auction company. I feel that poorly run auctions waste my time and seem unfair at times. I don't mind winning a bid for ten bucks and paying 11.80 for it. The amount of work, advertising, cataloging done by a good, fair auction company is worth it to me. That is what keeps them fun.

Yeah, but when you get hit with a buyers premium and a load out fee, it gets stupid. I've seen auctions where load out fees are stupidly high, like a 50$ minimum for some minimum wage flunky to carry a cereal box of stuff 10 feet across a line and toss it in a car trunk.

I remember years ago (more than thirty) my family would go to a weekly auction. There was no such thing as a "buyers premium". They got their fees from the sellers/merchandise they sold. Many years went by and I didn't go. I decided to go for fun one night about 12-15 years ago. I won the bid on some things and when it was time to pay I found out about the "buyer premium". I haven't been back. Same deal about car auctions years ago. No buyers premium.

I can't remember the last time I saw an auction that didn't have a buyer's premium. What I don't understand is- auctions never used to have a buyer's premium, yet the auction houses made money and stayed in business. Greedy much? I assume they still charge a percentage of the sale price, not including the 'juice'.

It's like if I took my truck to the dealer for an oil change. I pay him for the oil change, then he adds 20% to my bill for the privilege of giving him my business. Well, thank you for double dipping me. I, too, remember the auctions making their money off the seller, not the buyer. Maybe the shills out in the bidding audience get the extra 20% for their pay. Try spending a coupe hundred or thousand and see how quickly that buyers premium adds up. No thanks!

I just got home from Barrett-Jackson...wanna talk about fee's lol!!! 10% sellers premium plus a consignment fee for listing, 10% buyers fee onsite or 12% if you're bidding over the web or phone! ...and these aren't $10 items!
